Job Summary

Located in Kent Washington Protective Coatings Inc. is a leading provider of full service finishing for the aerospace electronics and medical industries in both commercial and defense applications. Services include but are not limited to non-destructive testing such as fluorescent penetrant and magnetic particle inspection and a wide variety of surface enhancement processes such as shot peening and abrasive blasting passivation cadmium and nickel zinc plating chromic sulfuric and boric sulfuric acid anodizing and the application of chromate conversion coating on ferrous and non-ferrous alloys. Organic coating includes the application and testing of multiple resin systems such as epoxies phenolics polyurethanes polyesters elastomerics intumescents lacquers alkyds acrylics dry-film lubricants and Teflon.

Founded in 1976 Protective Coatings Inc. was later acquired by Precision Castparts in 2012 and became part of the Aerostructures Division.

Position Summary:

Selected candidates for a Level 3 Quality In-Process Inspector shall demonstrate a full understanding and knowledge of all internal processes and familiarization of the associated specifications as it pertains to quality requirements testing and acceptance criteria. Quality In-Process Inspectors at this level shall demonstrate an expert level of blueprint reading in order to determine critical drawing tolerances and specific finishing requirements directly involving dimensional control along with the use of advanced measurement equipment such as micrometers (telescope dial and pistol grip) bore gages and Sunnen PG bore gage to name a few. Level 3 inspectors shall possess a basic knowledge of math skills and computer skills including MS Word and MS Excel in order to perform SPC charting and Gage R&R. Candidates shall also have the ability to make informed decisions regarding proper rework dispositioning and complete confidence and ability to resolve work problems or assist workers in solving work problems. At this level Level 3 Inspectors will also be responsible for the monitoring and documentation of controlled processing bakes and cures such as Stress and Embrittlement bakes and required paint finish cures as well as the required weekly equipment probe checks to ensure oven temperature compliance. Candidates must have the ability and desire to be flexible and adaptable in a fast-paced production environment be resourceful and innovative along with presenting a strong business ethic and compliance to leadership and company policies and a good communicator with the ability to represent the company in a positive manner. Other various duties of a Level 3 Inspector will also require inspection of critical and decorative paint finishes setup and inspection of part mark applications perform setup and verifications of masking requirements in accordance with drawing and/or customer requirements simple internal rework dispositions and the confirmation of compliance and documentation outside test reports. Leadership and mentoring skills are also expected of Quality In-Process Inspector at this level.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Understand adhere and demonstrate to the companys commitment to quality and safety.
  • Maintaining regular and punctual attendance according to shift-times or a pre-arranged work schedule.
  • Follow all policies procedures and work instructions.
  • Wear and maintain proper personal equipment (PPE).
  • Perform and monitor required controlled bakes and cures of coatings (plating and paint).
  • Perform equipment testing of bake oven equipment to confirm compliance (probe checks).
  • Review and confirmation of compliance of masking and finish requirements with the use of aerospace blueprints customer sketches internal technique cards and relevant process specifications.
  • Performing various visual inspections and measurement testing of all finishes or processes performed at Protective Coatings.
  • Final Inspection evaluation of finished orders to ensure completeness and conformance to processing as required by customer purchase order aerospace drawings and specification requirements.
  • Review and approval of process certifications (Certificate of Conformance).
  • Perform part mark set-up and inspection.
  • Compare certifications or Test Reports with PO (Receiving Inspection).
  • Performing calibration and verification of calibration of various inspection equipment including but not limited to: micrometers calipers Permascopes to name a few.
  • Using Go and No-Go gages to determine dimensional compliance (i.e. spline thread and pin gages).
  • Perform pre and post dimensional inspections of coatings to confirm compliance to drawing tolerances and/or customer requirements using inspection equipment such as micrometers calipers Permascopes height gages bore gages (retractable dial PG bore pistol grip and telescope).
  • Mentoring and training of lower level In-Process Quality Inspectors of the various inspection techniques the use of inspection tools and the required calibration checks of equipment.
  • Assisting the Quality Assurance department in the evaluation and dispositioning of non-conforming production orders.

Required Skills:

  • Ability to independently perform all the duties of a Level 1 and Level 2 Quality In-Process Inspector.
  • Excellent vision whether or not corrected including normal color vision.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to work alone or as a member of a team good cooperative skills.
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods with limited movement.
  • Blueprint reading experience in finish applications.
  • Experience in the calibration and use of inspection measuring equipment such as micrometers calipers coating thickness gages (i.e. Permascopes) bore gages and glossometers.
  • Familiarized with aerospace finish process specifications and the ability to interpret required finish criteria and testings.
  • Understanding of Configuration Management.
  • Computer skills in MS Word and Excel with preferred experience in SPC charting and Gage R&R.
  • Basic mathematic skills: add subtract multiply and divide using whole numbers common fractions and decimals.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast paced and changing environment with multiple priorities.
  • Ability to define problems collect data establish facts and draw valid conclusions.

Required Experience:

  • 3 year minimum experience as a Level II Quality In-process Inspector (or equivalent to job description).

Level of Education:

  • General Standard education including the ability to read and write in English.

Shift:

  • Monday through Friday from 2pm-10:30pm. Must be able to train on day shift for 1-3 months.
