We are seeking to recruit a part-time Lifeguard for Hiwa our state-of-the-art Recreation Centre located in central Auckland (Symonds Street) a hub for sport health and wellbeing for our students and communities.

As a Lifeguard you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and well-being of all patrons using our pool facilities. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain new skills and be part of a team working in a state of the art recreation facility.  

Our Aquatic Hall includes a 33x20m stainless steel pool with up to 8 lanes for swimming and water walking a spa pool sauna and dive well with 1m and 3m springboards. The pool also features a shallow water area with an adjustable depth from 0-2m.

The main responsibilities of this role include:

  • General lifeguard duties including pool supervision
  • Providing exceptional customer service
  • Pool water testing and monitoring
  • Ensuring pool safety and H&S standards are met

This is a part-time (11.5 FTE hours per week role) permanent position. The salary range for this role is $50000 to $55000 (per annum pro-rated for part time) negotiable depending on skills and experience.

This is a rostered role with shifts on Friday 13:30 to 21:30 and Sunday 10:30 to 14:30 with an unpaid 30 minute lunch break.

This is a dynamic high-visibility role where your self-awareness and attention to detail are key to protecting our patrons.

Training & Qualifications:

  • While holding a current lifeguard qualification is highly desirable it is not essentialwe provide full comprehensive training for the right candidate.
  • A Pool Lifeguard Practising Certificate and/or a First Aid Certificate would be a definite bonus and highly advantageous.

  • Experience working as a lifeguard is ideal or demonstrable success in any other fast-paced customer-focused role.
  • Outstanding customer service and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage positively with a diverse range of people.
  • Strong communication skills with an unerring eye for detail regarding health and safety procedures and compliance.
  • Highly confident swimming skills and the physical fitness required for effective pool supervision and rescue.
  • The ability to be fully reliable punctual and available for the rostered shifts.
