As the Seasonal GIS Preprofessional you will support GIS mapping and spatial data workflows that guide conservation and land management projects. This role offers experience with field data collection map creation and GIS dataset maintenance.
What Youll Do
- Collect spatial data in the field using GPS units and mobile GIS applications such as ArcGIS Field Maps.
- Edit GIS layers including utilities trails signage parking areas and road networks.
- Produce and print high-quality PDF maps to support internal and public needs.
- Organize and maintain GIS data to ensure accuracy consistency and usability across projects.
- Follow safety procedures and help support a clean organized and hazard-free work environment.
- Contribute to a positive team-oriented atmosphere and provide excellent service to staff and partners.
- Perform other duties as needed to support geospatial operations.
What Youll Need
- Must be 18 years of age at time of hire.
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in GIS geography urban or regional planning or a related field.
- Valid Drivers License in good standing.
- GIS certification or completion of a GIS certificate program preferred.
- Knowledge of GPS data collection methods and equipment.
- Familiarity with ArcGIS AutoCad and Trimble GIS hardware.
- Profiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Schedule & Pay
- Schedule averages 40 hours per week Monday Friday.
- This position starts around May of 2026 and works for a total of 4 months. The start and end date can be adjusted based on availability.
- $20-25 per hour
Work Setting
- Position is based out of the headquarters location in Wheaton IL and requires frequent visits to Forest Preserve locations throughout the county.
- Employees must wear appropriate pants and shoes to work in the field.
