QUALIFICATIONS:
- RN degree required.
- Nursing/LPN license from the State of Washington required.
- Current CPR certificate required.
- Knowledge of current medical issues and regulations relating to school environment.
- Bilingual/Spanish speaking preferred.
- Current experience in nursing field preferred.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with students staff and parents.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Observes students on a regular basis to detect health needs.
- Instructs teachers on screening for health concerns.
- Administers medication and treatment prescribed by physicians.
- Conducts parent conferences and maintains liaison between physicians parents and staff.
- Makes recommendations to primary care physician on health needs of individual students.
- Writes student health care plans based on physicians
- Delegates the administration of medication and health care to appropriate staff.
- Trains and supervises staff providing health care support.
- Maintains up-to-date cumulative health records on all students requiring nursing intervention reports to parents school personnel physicians clinics and other agencies on student health matters.
- Assumes authority in the absence of a physician for the care of a student who has suffered an injury or emergency illness.
- Administers first aid in accordance with established first aid procedures.
- Implements board policy on exclusion and readmission of students in connection with infectious and contagious diseases.
- Conducts training for students and staff on handicapping health and hygiene issues.
- Assists school personnel in maintaining sanitary standards in schools.
