JOB TITLE:Instructional Coach-Special Assignment

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

The Coach on Special Assignment position is designed for an educator who strives to positively impact the classroom success of core content teachers who provide instruction in subjects tested through state assessments. The primary role of the Coach is to improve the implementation of the state curricular standards through the utilization of the research-based instructional strategies and End of Course Exam Core Areas identified by the District. The Instructional Coach under the direction of district leadership will directly support teachers that provide classroom instruction in mathematics and English for students in Algebra I English I & II U.S. History and re-testers that are tested through state assessments by providing core content knowledge development lesson internalization instructional delivery instructional technology classroom environment and data action planning coaching designed to assist them in the implementation of curriculum standards and delivery of instructional strategies in order to increase student learning progress and achievement. The work of the High School Instructional Coach on Special Assignment will be guided by the state curricular standards and instructional delivery data gathered by campus administrators development specialists and other instructional coaches.

High School Instructional Coach on Special Assignment serves as part of the Districts Curriculum and Instruction team providing job-embedded and ongoing professional development for teachers. The Instructional Coach on Special Assignment provides support to the principal and teachers through data analysis and professional development including modeling lessons and other strategies to improve instructional practices. Overall the role of the coach is to enhance the capacity of the school and its teachers to meet the diverse learning needs of all students. The role of a coach is separate and apart from the evaluative role of the principal or supervisor of the teacher. The coach advocates for facilitates and supports the work of the teacher but never performs supervision or evaluation. This role extends beyond the traditional scope of instructional coaching serving as a critical lever in campus turnaround efforts by directly impacting the growth of campus accountability ratings through targeted support fidelity of curriculum implementation and intensive capacity-building initiatives.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university
  • Five years job-related experience in PK-12 education
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate

Preferred:

  • Valid Texas teaching certificate in EOC Core Content Area
  • Special Education Certification
  • Bilingual and/or ESL Certification for campuses with large English Language Learner (ELL) student populations
  • Successfully demonstrated track record of success with at-risk and/or diverse learners as well as adult learners
  • Successful experience in coaching PK-12 classroom teachers

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

  • Excellent organizational communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent skills in the use of Microsoft Office applications
  • In-depth knowledge of state curricular standards as written taught and assessed
  • In-depth knowledge of federal state and local laws policies procedures and processes related to the education of students who receive services through bilingual/ESL career and technical gifted and talented and/or special education programs
  • Ability to coach core content teachers that provide instruction in subjects tested through state assessments in the critical attributes of instruction blended learning virtual learning and student engagement with diverse populations
  • Excellent data analysis skills

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Safeguards the confidentiality of all documentation provided or generated.
  • Engages core content teachers that provide instruction in subjects tested through state assessments in adult learning experiences designed to develop a district culture that fosters a growth mind set and promotes all employees as learners.
  • Spends 80% of time Real Time Coaching observing modeling and participating in planning learning practicing and DDAP professional learning community (PLC) meetings with core content teachers that provide instruction in subjects tested through state assessments. Spends the remaining 20% of time in strategic planning sessions and required trainings/meetings with other instructional coaches.
  • Uses research-based adult learning and engagement strategies to support core content teachers that provide instruction in subjects tested through state assessments in the transfer of learning experiences into practice.
  • Implements coaching cycle with core content teachers that provide instruction in subjects tested through state assessments (Partnered Planning Focused Rehearsal Supported Execution and Guided Adjustments).
  • Participates in Data Driven Action Planning (DDAP) meetings to support core content teachers that provide instruction in subjects tested through state assessments.
  • Provides ongoing core content development during Learning PLCs to core content teachers that provide instruction in subjects tested through state assessments.
  • Models effective lesson internalization for core content teachers that provide instruction in subjects tested through state assessments.
  • Models best instructional practices methods materials and technology that have proven to increase student achievement through classroom demonstrations or side-by-side coaching
  • Conducts focused classroom demonstration lessons observations and provides specific feedback to teachers to improve professional practices and increase academic achievement.
  • Supports individuals and collaborative teams in their effort to make data and research based instructional decisions to increase student learning.
  • Works collaboratively and communicates effectively with teachers and leadership to ensure implementation of a rigorous relevant curriculum and instructional practices that will increase student learning and achievement.
  • Participates in the evaluation of student work both formative and summative for the purpose of utilizing assessment results to drive instructional planning and promote student growth and achievement.
  • Assists in planning and providing in-services to teachers in order to assist in achieving District goals and objectives.
  • Provides effective communications with administrators teachers and other school personnel to strengthen all aspects of the instructional program.
  • Models best practices and differentiation of instruction by creating resources in various formats to meet the needs of all learners.
  • Promotes and models the integration of technology throughout the design and delivery of coaching and professional development modules.
  • Prepares for and conducts coaching and professional development sessions for any campus-based or campus-support personnel throughout the school year on weekends and during the summer as needed.
  • Participates in all district trainings throughout the school year and during the summer.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The usual and customary methods of performing the jobs functions require the following physical demands: physical mobility standing prolonged sitting some lifting carrying pushing and/or pulling. This position will require traveling within the district.
