The Arizona Department of Agriculture is recruiting for a Food Product Standardization Inspection Supervisor 1 for our Nogales Operations Office of Citrus Fruit & Vegetable (CF&V Division).
The position will report directly to the Program Managers in our Nogales operations. The positions is responsible for the supervision of subordinate inspectors involved in daily produce inspection activities. Inspection activities are done in accordance with the United States Department of Agricultures (USDA) Fresh Produce Grade Inspection (FPGI) program.
Duties to include but not limited to:
Training new inspectors and keeping inspectors updated on policies and procedures this includes assisting with training on all commodities requiring inspection.
Responsible for daily reviews of inspector note sheets and certificates for completeness and accuracy. Conduct USDA Branch Internal Quality Management System (BIQMS)) supervisory technical reviews for inspector work in the field.
Update handbooks performs market and shipping point inspections and industry appeal inspections as needed.
This position may also conduct terminal marketing inspections.
You will be required to attend out of state training and overnight travel to conduct inspections.
The position is responsible for reviewing and approval employee time conducts annual reviews for permanent employees disciplinary actions and

KNOWLEDGE OF:
Knowledge of USDA guidelines in proper sample selection; produce inspection policies and procedures; supervisory principles and practices
Production harvesting packaging grading and marketing practices in the produce industry
Audit training principles and techniques
Completion of USDA note sheets and certification writing
SKILLS IN:
Interpersonal relationships.
Written and oral communications
Applying supervisory principles and practices; training and supervising inspectors to accurately grade fresh fruits and vegetables
Mathematical and writing skills to accurately complete detailed reviews of inspection note sheets and certificates
Solving complex problems in the field
Counsel employees in the field in a professional manner
Making unbiased decisions regarding employees or industry.
ABILITY TO:
Ability to read understand interpret and accurately apply U.S. Grade Standards for all fruits and vegetables
Analyze each inspectors abilities to best utilize them for maximum work efficiency
Communicate in a professional manner with employees and industry
Make quick and decisive decisions in the field and set the standard and example to subordinate staff members
Three years experience working as a grade inspector II or combination of II III or IV
Supervisory training.
License has Supervisory of Specific Commodities.
