Bethel Juvenile Probation is recruiting to fill an Office Assistant 2 position.


What You Will Be Doing:

Under the general supervision of the Bethel District Supervisor independently performs a wide variety of complex clerical duties in support of Juvenile Probation Officers and Juvenile Justice Counselors facility staff. Represents the Division of Juvenile Justice as the primary first contact at the Bethel Youth Facility directing incoming telephone inquiries and greeting the public. As the primary reception for the office provides information explains procedures to the public and other governmental agencies with information requiring knowledge of juvenile probation and facility programs. After determining public needs direct to appropriate staff. Assurance of proper message taking determination of calls that may need emergency handling and use of proper procedures is required of all contacts.

The Working Environment You Can Expect:

This position is located at the Bethel Youth Facility 950 State Hwy addition to Bethel we supervise youth in the 56 villages of the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta. This is a fulltime position and as an Office Assistant 2 your work hours will be from 8:00am to 4:30pm Monday through Friday with an hour lunch break.

High school diploma or the equivalent.
AND
One year of experience that includes clerical tasks such as greeting clients answering phones typing filing sorting mail entering data receiving payments making change or maintaining logs.

Substitution:
Education from an accredited college may substitute for the required experience (3 semester hours or 4 quarter hours equal one month of experience; 150 hours of vocation education equal one month of experience).

Special Note:
High school diploma equivalent means one of the following: 1) a G.E.D.; 2) completion of any basic adult education course equivalent to 480 class hours (16 weeks at 30 course hours per week); 3) acceptance in full standing by an accredited college or university; 4) highest grade of school completed plus an amount of paid or volunteer experience that totals 12 years and includes basic clerical tasks such as greeting clients answering phones typing filing sorting mail entering data receiving payments making change or maintaining logs.

Some positions in this class may require the incumbent to operate motor vehicles. Such positions require that the applicant possess a regular drivers license and be 18 years of age or older.

Some positions in this class may require skill in typing. Recruitment and selection may include this requirement.

Prior to initial appointment the selected candidate will be subject to a background investigation.
