Job Summary

TITLE: ELL Associate

Required:

  1. High school diplomaHiSET or G.E.D.
  2. Bilingual or Multilingual

Desired:

  1. Bachelors degree in education student services world language or related field.
  2. Experience working with children and families with a refugee or immigrant background.

Skills Knowledge and Abilities:

  1. Knowledge of working with the English Language Learners.
  2. Knowledge of second language acquisition and second language instruction program.

BASIC FUNCTION:

Support language acquisition of English Language Learners by helping prepare for materials andassiststudent academically.This position requires continuous use of independent judgment.The essential functions as shown below represent only the key areas of responsibility; specific position requirements will vary depending on the needs of

theTeaching & Learningdepartment.



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Assiststudents in the ELL program in the development of English language in all domains.
  2. Assistinmaintaininga safe and orderly instructional environment.
  3. Supervise lunchroom playground halls classroom and other assigned areas.
  4. Clarify and reinforce teacher directions.
  5. Assistwith instruction in the community setting as.
  6. Assistin individual or group activities under the teachers supervision.
  7. Assist ELL in interpreting and following the direction of the teacher.
  8. Reinforce skills the teacher has taught.
  9. Assistwith parent/teacher conferences.
  10. Assistwith implementing building level initiatives
  11. Attend required professional development on designated dates throughout the school year

ADDITIONAL ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (for every DMPS position):

  1. Attend work on a prompt and regular basis.
  2. Maintain confidentiality.
  3. Maintain satisfactory and harmonious working relationships with the public students and other employees.
  4. Assist with other duties as may be assigned

DAYS:190 HOURS: 7.5 hours per day

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Constantstanding and waling

OccasionalReaching/pushing/pulling climbing stairs/driving/lifting (50lbs) carry (25 feet)
