Job Description:

The Division of Neurocritical Care is seeking a Clinical Research Coordinator II to play a key role in advancing innovative clinical and observational studies. The Clinical Research Coordinator II will coordinate and conduct multiple research protocols while ensuring adherence to good clinical practice and all regulatory standards. This position serves as a vital liaison among patients families and multidisciplinary medical teams fostering patient engagement and study retention in a fast-paced critical care environment.

About this Role

Research Operations and Study Coordination

  • Oversee daily operations of studies within the Division of Neurocritical Care Department of Neurology.
  • Coordinate and provide treatments according to research protocols.
  • Implement administrative policies and ensure compliance with FDA NIH federal and local regulations.
  • Execute multidisciplinary Phase IIV studies in collaboration with investigators.
  • Liaise with healthcare professionals to coordinate medical psychiatric and psychological care as required by protocols.
  • Work with a vulnerable patient population in a critical care setting.
  • Identify recruit and screen patients for study participation.
  • Conduct informed consent processes with subjects or their legal representatives.
  • Administer questionnaires cognitive and motor tests; oversee screening procedures.
  • Enter and review study data to ensure accuracy completeness and timely reporting of adverse events.
  • Monitor subject safety and conduct evaluations in accordance with study guidelines.

Research Development and Faculty Support

  • Promote and facilitate both clinical and basic science research for the Department of Neurology.
  • Advise faculty fellows and scientists on the design and feasibility of investigator-initiated and industry-sponsored research.
  • Assist in developing study protocols and identifying funding opportunities through federal state and private sources.
  • Train investigators and staff on required protocol and regulatory modules.
  • Serve as a resource for investigators and research staff by answering questions and troubleshooting research-related issues.

Regulatory Management

  • Manage administrative and regulatory aspects of investigator-initiated industry-sponsored and device trials.
  • Interpret and communicate contractual and regulatory requirements to investigators and staff.
  • Ensure compliance with external regulatory agencies and maintain organized data and filing systems for all study protocols.

Patient Scheduling and Coordination

  • Schedule research patient appointments in EPIC including confirmations and reminders.

Meetings Collaboration and Scholarly Activity

  • Participate in weekly research meetings to review study progress.
  • Represent the Department of Neurology at conferences and research study meetings.
  • Contribute to manuscript writing and grant proposal development.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Expected Salary:

$50000 to $60000; Commensurate with education and experience.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelors degree in an appropriate area and two years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Education and Experience

  • Bachelors degree in an appropriate area and five years of clinical trials experience or three years of acute clinical trials experience.

Preferred Degree Areas:

  • Graduate of a nationally accredited nursing program with four years of professional nursing experience.
  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) in accordance with Chapter 464 Florida Statutes.
  • Experience in neurology and/or critical care settings strongly preferred.
  • Neurology or ICU background favored.

Abilities

  • Ability to read interpret and apply complex research guidelines with strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; able to effectively liaise with multidisciplinary teams and external partners.
  • Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively across various organizational levels and projects.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills to meet deadlines and maintain reliable attendance.
  • Flexibility to work variable hours including evenings and weekends as part of on-call responsibilities.
  • Experience working with seriously ill subjects in a critical care setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt and pivot within dynamic research environments.
  • Experience supporting clinical trials within an academic health science setting.

Knowledge

  • Comprehensive knowledge of state and federal regulations governing clinical research.
  • Understanding of accepted research procedures and ethical confidential practices.
  • Clinical knowledge of critically ill neurological and neurosurgical patient populations.

Skills

  • Laboratory skills required to obtain and process biological samples (e.g. phlebotomy) using standard laboratory equipment.
  • Proficiency in personal computer software including Microsoft Office Suite clinical trial management systems and relational databases (e.g. OnCore REDCap).
  • Experience using electronic medical record systems particularly EPIC.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of clinical trials administration and documentation practices.
