Responsibilities & Qualifications
The Novelis Oswego NY team is seeking a Sr. Continuous Improvement Specialist. The Continuous Improvement Engineer will assist in the identification of Continuous Improvement projects with the greatest value and coordinate Continuous Improvement training. Coordination across all projects is critical including regular review meetings and reports to management.
Novelis Operating System (NOS) is a project team-based management system that encompasses World Class Manufacturing Total Quality TPM and Lean/6 Sigma practices in a systemic approach to problem solving. NOS focuses on loss identification loss reduction loss sustainability and loss prevention. It is based on the involvement and empowerment of operational teams starting from operators at shop floor allowing them to be fully accountable for delivering results 24/7.
Responsibilities
- Lead or co-lead various Improvement Events Rapid Improvement Events Value Stream Analysis 5s Standard Work Flow Cells and DMAIC projects resulting in measurable business improvements.
- Execute and support on diverse data analysis processes throughout the manufacturing units.
- Assist with the cascade of targets in the process and align Key Process Indicators for the operators.
- Partner with Process Owners Project Sponsors and other CI resources to drive results.
- Coach and support line management in continuous improvement activities
- Deliver training on key tools and improvement methodologies as needed
- Assist in identifying continuous improvement opportunities.
- Engage in change management initiatives and support the plant by effectively communicating change
- Define the scope and financial justification of improvement opportunities.
- Become an expert in the use of Lean and Six Sigma tools WCM principles TPM principles; ensure that the tools are used appropriately by team members.
- Monitor and report on overall progress to the CI Manager
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in technical business or equivalent experience
- Minimum 2 years in continuous improvement
- High degree of understanding of WCM management system
- Lean Six Sigma Green Belt training
- Proven ability to successfully implement improvement within an established time frame then sustain improvements.
- High energy data driven and results oriented.
- Excellent interpersonal written verbal communication skills and organization skills must be comfortable teaching and presenting to large groups at all levels of the organization from shop floor to senior leadership
Preferred Qualifications
- Masters degree in technical or business
- Experience in a similar business prefer metal industry
- 2 years experience facilitating coaching implementing TPM Lean WCM
- Lean Six Sigma Black Belt

Novelis Oswego is located in northern Central New York on the shores of Lake Ontario and employs approximately 1200 people. The Oswego plant produces more than one billion pounds of high-quality aluminum sheet each year serving customers in the automotive beverage can and specialty addition to its downtown shopping and dining district Oswego and the surrounding areas are renowned for fishing hiking snowmobiling and outdoor recreation across all four seasons.
