Senior MRP (Material Requirements Planning) Engineer.
Role Summary
The Senior MRP Engineer is responsible for developing implementing and optimizing the Material Requirements Planning (MRP) processes within the manufacturing environment. This role ensures the efficient flow of materials aligns inventory levels with production schedules and drives continuous improvement in supply chain efficiency and cost reduction. The Senior MRP Engineer acts as a key liaison between Production Purchasing Inventory and IT departments.
Key Responsibilities
MRP System Management:
Manage and maintain the integrity of the MRP system data (e.g. Bill of Materials (BOMs) lead times safety stock levels master data).
Monitor and execute the MRP process to generate accurate and timely material demands for production and purchasing.
Analyze and resolve exceptions generated by the MRP system.
Planning & Scheduling:
Collaborate with Production Planning to translate the Master Production Schedule (MPS) into detailed material requirements.
Determine optimal order quantities and timing to balance inventory costs with production needs.
Develop and implement strategies to prevent material shortages excess inventory and obsolescence.
Process Improvement & Optimization:
Identify opportunities to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of the MRP system and related processes.
Lead cross-functional projects to implement best practices in material planning and inventory control.
Develop and maintain key performance indicators (KPIs) for material planning such as inventory turns forecast accuracy and delivery performance.
Reporting & Analysis:
Generate and interpret various reports on material status inventory levels and planning performance.
Conduct root cause analysis for planning failures and implement corrective actions.
Forecast future material needs based on production forecasts and market trends.
Collaboration & Training:
Work closely with the Purchasing team to align procurement strategies with MRP outputs.
Train junior staff and cross-functional team members on MRP system usage and best practices.
Required Qualifications
Education: Bachelors degree in Supply Chain Management Engineering Business Administration or a related field.
Experience: 5 years of progressive experience in MRP Material Planning Production Planning or Supply Chain roles preferably in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Technical Skills:
Expert-level proficiency with major ERP/MRP systems (e.g. SAP Oracle Microsoft Dynamics).
Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and the flow of materials.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data analysis and reporting.
In-depth knowledge of inventory control methods (e.g. EOQ safety stock calculation cycle counting).
Soft Skills:
Excellent analytical problem-solving and decision-making skills.
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex data clearly.
Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously.
Preferred Qualifications
Certification: Certification from APICS (e.g. CPIM - Certified in Planning and Inventory Management) or similar professional body.
Experience with forecasting models and demand planning tools.
Prior experience leading process improvement initiatives (e.g. Lean Six Sigma).
