Job Description:
  • Client is seeking an experienced and dedicated Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) to oversee and enforce safety protocols on active Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) construction sites.
  • The SSHO will ensure full compliance with federal state and local safety regulations-including EMand OSHA standards.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure compliance with the site-specific Accident Prevention Plan (APP) and all applicable safety policies.
  • Conduct daily safety inspections and audits of work areas equipment and operational practices.
  • Identify potential hazards and implement corrective measures to maintain compliance with safety standards.
  • Lead daily safety meetings toolbox talks and training sessions for all site personnel.
  • Investigate incidents near misses and safety violations; develop and document corrective and preventive action plans.
  • Maintain complete and accurate safety documentation including logs permits inspection reports and training records.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA EMand Clients corporate safety policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors to verify their safety programs and training meet project-specific requirements.
  • Serve as the primary on-site point of contact for all safety-related matters.
  • Collaborate with project teams to identify hazards and develop proactive risk mitigation strategies.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree in Environmental Health & Safety or a related field or a minimum of five (5) years of EHS experience in construction safety preferably on federal or large-scale commercial projects required.
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction Certification required.
  • Must possess-or be willing and able to obtain within 6 months-a CHST ASP or CSP certification.
  • EMtraining and prior experience strongly preferred.
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Thorough knowledge of federal state and local safety regulations.
  • Excellent communication leadership and organizational skills.
  • Proven ability to work independently and make sound decisions under pressure.
Preferred Skills:
  • Experience working with government contracts and compliance standards (e.g. USACE NAVFAC).
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) proficiency preferred.
