The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) Northern Region Highways and Aviation is looking for an Equipment Operator Journey 1/2/3 in NOME to help us

Keep Alaska Moving!

SALARY INFORMATION:
Equipment Operator Journey 1 -- $31.62
Equipment Operator Journey 2 -- $33.44
Equipment Operator Journey 3 -- $35.53

What You Will Be Doing:
  • Maintain state highways airports seaplane floats bridges and docks to ensure safe and operable conditions including snow and ice control pavement repair brushing drainage and traffic control such as flagging.
  • Operate and maintain a variety of light and heavy equipment such as plow trucks loaders graders sweepers and specialized airport vehicles.
  • Perform airport operations tasks including runway inspections friction testing issuing NOTAMs and ensuring FAA certification compliance.
  • Provide Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) support including stand-by duties training certification and equipment maintenance.
  • Conduct airport security and wildlife management activities in compliance with FAA TSA and State regulations

ARFF training including a comprehensive 40-hour course medical evaluation and fit testing for self-contained breathing apparatus will be provided on the job.

Minimum Qualifications

This job class is part of a series of competency based class specifications created for career areas within the Labor Trades and Crafts Unit. The class specification identifies the levels of work and wage grades within the career area the core and specific competencies of the career area required work behaviors certifications and physical requirements. The competency specification for this job class is available at in this job class are filled through Union referral except for promotions demotions transfers and emergency appointments.

SUPPLEMENTAL QUESTIONS

COMMERCIAL DRIVERS LICENSE REQUIRED
This position requires the incumbent to possess a Commercial Drivers License (CDL) per federal regulations (49 CFR 383) to register with the federal CDL Drug & Alcohol Testing Clearinghouse prior to performing safety-sensitive duties and to provide consent to the Employer to review driver information in accordance with 49 CFR 382.


Equipment Operator Journey 1

AClass BAlaska Commercial Drivers License (CDL) is required at the time of hire. The proposed appointee must successfully obtain aClass A CDL within 120 days of hireand sign an agreement to this effect as a condition of employment.


Equipment Operator Journey 2

AClass AAlaska Commercial Drivers License (CDL)is required at time of hire. A conditional hire approval can only be given for endorsements. This means that the proposed appointee must successfully obtain theN Tanker endorsement within 90 days of hire and sign an agreement to this effect as a condition of employment.


Equipment Operator Lead Journey 3
A Class A Alaska Commercial Drivers License (CDL) is required at time of hire.A conditional hire approval can be given to applicants that do not yet possess the required endorsement. This means that the proposed appointee must successfully obtain theN Tanker endorsement within 90 days of hire and sign an agreement to this effect as a condition of employment.


DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION & PUBLIC FACILITIES DRUG AND ALCOHOL POLICY

Selected candidates must comply with the DOT&PF Drug and Alcohol Policy and procedures and CANNOT start work in a Commercial Drivers License (CDL) position until Management Services or designee has received confirmation of the proposed appointee passing the required Pre-Employment drug test. According to federal regulations all violations and refusals will be maintained with the Federal CDL Drug & Alcohol Testing Clearinghouse database.


ARMS & AMMUNITION REQUIREMENT

This position requires the use of firearm or ammunition. If you have been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence you may not hold a position in this job class in accordance with the Federal Omnibus Consolidated Appropriations Act of 1997 (PL). A misdemeanor crime of domestic violence means an offense that:

is a misdemeanor under Federal or State Law; and

has as an element the use or attempted use of physical force or the threatened use of a deadly weapon committed by a current or former spouse parent or guardian of the victim by a person with whom the victim shares a child in common by a person who is cohabiting with or has cohabited with the victim as a spouse parent or guardian of the victim.


TRANSPORTATION WORKER IDENTIFICATION CREDENTIAL (TWIC)

Please be aware - this position requires the applicant (at their expense) to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) in compliance with federal regulations pertaining to certain maritime port facilities. All terminal employees are required to obtain a TWIC in order to work in certain restricted areas of the terminals.

If you are selected for the position you will be required to immediately enroll/apply for the required TWIC card. The applicant selected for the position must have their TWIC card in hand in order to be unescorted within a restricted or secure area of the terminal facility.
