PATIENT NEEDS AND SERVICE DESCRIPTION
Main purpose of the section with reference to this position
The Department of Pharmacy exists to provide patients with safe and efficacious medicines ensure optimal medication therapy outcomes and disseminate medicines and poisons information to healthcare providers and the public.
The holder of this position will dispense medicines and other relevant products; provide medication use counselling and patient follow up; ensure safe storage and distribution of pharmaceuticals; disseminate medicines information and education to healthcare workers and the public; promote public health and disease prevention; conduct audits relating to medicines use; participate in continuing professional development and community service activities.

Main purpose of this position
To dispense medicines and related products extemporaneous compounding provision of medicines and poisons information to patients healthcare providers and the public; monitor patient medication therapy; enhance rational use of medicines and promote public health.
Key responsibilities of the position
- Accurate ethical and safe dispensing
- Safe secure proper storage and cost effective use of pharmaceutical products
- Meeting of client and statutory expectations with regard to pharmaceutical services provided
- Implementation of policies standard operating procedures relating to services provided
- Maintenance of the best customer care standards in delivery of pharmacy services
- Rational use of medicines in line with assigned duties
- Maintaining requisite competencies and statutory requirements to practice as a pharmaceutical technologist
- Reduce risks associated with medication use
Main Duties
- Dispensing of medicines and related devices
- Commodity management
- Medication incident reporting
- Implementation and adherence to Medication Management and Use standards and International Patient Safety Goals
- Participation in medication use evaluations
- Provision of medicines and poisons information
- Adherence to absolute pharmacy service standards
- Exceptional customer care standards in the unit
- Daily patient follow-up
- Preparing of timely reports to agreed detail.
Requirements
QUALIFICATION AND COMPETENCIES
- Education and Professional Training
- Diploma in Pharmacy recognised by the Pharmacy and Poisons Board
Licenses
- Enrolled to practice as a Pharmaceutical Technologist by the Pharmacy and Poisons Board
- Valid Current annual practice license issued by the Pharmacy and Poisons Board
Certification
- Certificate in computer application packages
- Certificate or equivalent qualification in aseptic technique (indicate if done or not done)
