POSITION SPECIFICS

The Penn State Altoona Athletic Department has an immediate need for a Full-Time Athletic Trainer Supervisor. The Athletic Trainer Supervisor provides leadership and management of athletic training services to the NCAA Division III program in accordance with Pennsylvania Practice Act established by the state board of medicine with the goal of optimizing athletic performance injury prevention rehabilitation and student-athlete wellness. This position will serve as the direct supervisor for the athletic training sports medicine and conditioning staff serve as the primary athletic trainer for a set number of teams and reports directly to the Director of Athletics and will participate as part of the athletics leadership team.

Penn State Altoona currently has approximately 300 Student Athletes across 18 varsity teams currently and expanding. Penn State Altoona is a Division III school and competes in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • In collaboration with team physicians prevent diagnosis and treat emergency acute and chronic medical conditions involving impairment functional limitations and disabilities as defined by the NATA

  • Determine the treatment/rehabilitation needed for athletic injuries/illness and the athletes readiness to participate including pre-participation and post-injury/illness return

  • Supervise the organization implementation and review of a comprehensive injury prevention and performance enhancement programs for intercollegiate athletic teams and club sports

  • Provide athletic training services for athletic events including games practices and strength and conditioning sessions

  • Research current methods of treatment and oversee adherence for required certifications and staff continuing education

  • Serve as an educational resource for matters related to Sports Medicine and Athletic Training for personnel internal to and affiliated with the University

  • Perform all aspects of health care administration including maintaining medical records scheduling health care appointments and ensure open lines of collaboration and communication with health care professionals and athletic staff

  • Recognize and monitor mental health nutrition and other health issues student athletes may be experiencing and refer to appropriate professional for intervention if appropriate

  • Assist in the education and supervision of Graduate Student Athletic Trainers

  • Oversee and coordinate student athlete entrance and exit physicals

  • Contribute to the development of an environment for student-athletes that is healthy safe equitable and inclusive

  • May supervise staff members including hiring development and performance management

MINIMUM EDUCATION WORK EXPERIENCE & REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS

If filled as Athletic Trainer - Supervisor this position requires: Masters Degree 3 years of relevant experience Required Certifications: Licensed Athletic Trainer - Pennsylvania State Board of Medicine Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) - National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification - American Red Cross American Heart Association or other accredited organization Automated External Defibrillator(AED) Certification - American Red Cross American Heart Association or other accredited organization If filled as Athletic Trainer - Senior Supervisor this position requires: Masters Degree 6 years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience accepted Required Certifications: Automated External Defibrillator(AED) Certification - American Red Cross American Heart Association or other accredited organization Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification - American Red Cross American Heart Association or other accredited organization Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) - National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification Licensed Athletic Trainer - Pennsylvania State Board of Medicine

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

This is a 12-month position. Full Penn State benefits included.

BACKGROUND CHECKS/CLEARANCES

This position requires the following clearances in addition to applicable background checks: PA State Police Criminal Background Check PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form and Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check. This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid drivers license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.

SALARY & BENEFITS

The salary range for this position including all possible grades is $46400.00 - $74000.00.
