GENERAL DESCRIPTION:


This Trooper III position involves routine law-enforcement duties with statewide arrest authority and jurisdiction in Wyoming including crash investigations criminal investigations public relations and other duties associated with their peace officer status. This position is associated with the Executive Protection Division and the Capitol Security Division. Troopers are responsible for the security of the State Capitol both Herschler buildings and the Governors Residence. Troopers provide Executive protection security for the Governor and spouse and visiting dignitaries.

  • Trooper IIIs takes on an additional duty which is critical to the agencys mission and which requires extensive additional training certification and responsibility.

Qualifications

PREFERENCES/**AGENCY REQUIREMENTS:

**Applicant must possess the Professional Post Certification through the Wyoming Peace Officers Standards and Training Commission.


KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge of Explosive Devices
  • Knowledge of Street Gang Activity
  • Knowledge of Extremist Groups


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:
High School Diploma /GED/ or equivalent
Experience:
6 years of work experience working with the public which includes 3 years as a P.O.S.T. certified law enforcement officer or as a Trooper with the Wyoming Highway Patrol.
Certificates Licenses Registrations:
Applicant must possess the Professional P.O.S.T. certification through the Wyoming Peace Officers Standards and Training Commission or equivalent certification through another state.

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:


  • Ability to work irregular or extended hours with an ever-changing schedule. Typical
    schedules include overtime nights holidays and weekends on a regular basis.
  • Ability to walk stand or sit for long periods.
  • Physically able to respond to and mitigate potentially life-threatening situations.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic and rapidly changing environment.
  • Physically able to safeguard individuals from all forms of security and safety hazards.
  • Ability to drive and transport individuals in a safe professional and efficient manner;
    potentially for long periods.
  • Work in environments and under conditions that require carrying authorized weapons and ammunition and the use of protective gear and devices.
