Job Summary

Job responsibilities include (but are not limited to): 

  • Day to day interface with predefined villages and Community Relations related to the operation.
  • Ensuring the accurate recording and reporting on complaints / grievances and incident related to villages and Community Relations.
  • Give accurate and approved feedback is given to the villages and Community Relations on issues complaints and grievances.
  • Ensure accurate data on relevant grievances and incidents as input into the Sustainable Development Annual report for Anglo American Platinum.
  • Identify commitments made and ensure effective communication expectations around commitments Maintain commitments register and ensure systems are updated.
  • Monitor commitment fulfilment.
  • Report on commitment fulfilment and/or progress to management and stakeholders as required.
  • Provide input into the local area profile as part of SEAT tool 2A in terms of major key issues and impacts safety issues on the local communities and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Engage with social performance team to ensure accurate input for the local area profiling regarding socio-political and other context.
  • Provide input into the stakeholder engagement plan with stakeholder mapping.
  • Implement the annual stakeholder engagement plan and ensure internal stakeholders are trained on the plan and relevant engagement techniques.
  • Conduct Weekly meetings with the traditional leadership as required.
  • Coordinate attend and report on Community forums engagement.
  • Track and monitor engagement and update plans as required.
  • Ensure all relevant systems are updated.
  • Reports to manager on incidents and reports back to community.
  • Stakeholder mapping integration with local regional and nations stakeholder engagement objectives.
  • Recording and reporting on complaints / grievances and incident related to villages and Community Relations.
  • Effective two-way open communication with employees and community
  • Develop a trusting and mutual respect relationship with internal and external stakeholders
  • Support and participate in the training and development requirements of employees regarding engagement with the community.
  • Communicate effectively with community and stakeholders.
  • Identify potential conflict situations and minimize the implications.
  • Advise on cultural diversity issues.
  • Identify ideas to increase motivation and competencies.

This is at a band 7 Level and reporting to the Community Relations & Local Government Specialist


Qualifications :

Qualifications Section

  • Grade 12 or Equivalent.
  • Bachelors degree in Sociology Economics Community Development Regional Planning Negotiation and Conflict resolution or related discipline.
  • Postgraduate qualification in Business Administration Sociology Economics Community Development Development Economics will be advantageous.
  • Fluent in English and the Regions language specifically in Sepedi.

Experience knowledge and skills

  • At least three years post-qualification experience in mining or non-profit organization.
  • Trained in Community Engagement approaches and systems applied in Valterra Platinum.
  • Competent in functional systems relevant to the role.
  • Microsoft Office.

Additional Information :

  • Valid driving license code 08
  • Own transport for execution roles and responsibilities in the role.
