Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and self-motivated Electrical Substation Estimator with 57 years of experience estimating substation projects ranging from $50000 to $15 million. The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for both Construction & Procurement (C&P) and Engineering Procurement & Construction (EPC) substation projects. This is a remote role with occasional travel required to project sites.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare detailed cost estimates for substation projects including labor materials equipment and subcontractor costs
Analyze project specifications drawings and RFPs to develop comprehensive bid packages
Collaborate with engineering procurement and construction teams to ensure alignment on scope and pricing
Evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotes for accuracy and competitiveness
Develop and maintain historical cost data and pricing benchmarks
Participate in bid reviews and strategy meetings
Provide value engineering and cost-saving recommendations
Travel to project sites (approximately 20%) for site assessments and client meetings
Required Qualifications
57 years of experience estimating electrical substation projects
Proven track record estimating projects ranging from $50000 to $15 million
Experience with both C&P and EPC project delivery models
Strong understanding of electrical substation components construction methods and industry standards
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong organizational and time management abilities
Ability to work independently and manage multiple estimates simultaneously
Willingness to travel up to 20% across Texas Oklahoma and New Mexico
No specific software required; must be proficient with general office tools (Excel Word etc.)
Preferred Skills
Knowledge of NESC NEC and IEEE standards
Familiarity with utility and industrial substation design and construction practices
Experience with cost analysis and risk assessment
Strong negotiation and vendor management skills
Ability to develop conceptual estimates from limited information
Familiarity with regional labor rates and material costs in the Southwest U.S.
