Job Summary and Responsibilities

Responsible in the areas of 1) management of spiritual services 2) patient/family/staff spiritual care 3) worship and prayer 4) grievance counseling 5) outreach to the community through education and support group activity and 6) direction of volunteers.
Essential Functions:
  • Participates in meetings for Spiritual Care Leaders within the system (in person on phone webinars) and helps plan departmental goals aligned with system objectives for Spiritual Services the Standards for Mission Integration the Religious and Ethical Directives for Catholic Healthcare institutions and the Statement of Common Values.
  • Helps lead the Spiritual Services team in planning and implementing objectives and activities according to the goals and requirements as mentioned above. Provides excellent communication (verbal and written) within the department and throughout the hospital and community.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of QI processes and encourages staff to actively participate in MMCs Performance Improvement processes when appropriate and provides Department Specific Orientation and Reorientation to department staff and volunteers.
  • Develops a system of accountability that measures the quantitative and qualitative aspects of the department services and promotes continuous improvement of outcomes. Promotes the development of processes that facilitate comfort care for the chronically ill and the dying through involvement in the Palliative Care team ICU and other initiatives. Encourages and supports staff in developing the spiritual care and ethical environment by attending Ethics Committee meetings and being available for Ethical Consults.
  • Assures the prioritization of patient and family visits and assures departmental documentation promptly of assessments appropriate interventions and outcomes of visits. Accurately documents visits promptly. Participates in rounds and patient care conferences. Assists with the evaluation and documentation of patient visits and on-call. Assures the integration of Spiritual Care in patient care processes within other patient care departments.

Job Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • Masters Degree in theology or spirituality or its equivalent.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in Spiritual Care Ethics or other related field.
Licensure:
  • Current Board certification required or within two years of hire in any of the following: Catholic Chaplain Board Certified Chaplain Certified Supervisor of Clinical Pastoral Education Jewish Chaplain Canadian Spiritual.
  • Drivers License and Proof of Auto Insurance upon hire
