Job Summary:
The Registered Nurse in the CVICU provides skilled nursing care to patients with cardiovascular diseases including pre/post Cath Lab and IR procedures and those recovering from open-heart surgery. Responsibilities include monitoring hemodynamic status administering medications managing specialized equipment and collaborating with the healthcare team. The role requires strong critical thinking skills and the ability to respond effectively in emergency situations.

Responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive care to CVICU patients including those with cardiovascular disease and post-operative cardiac surgery patients.
- Monitor hemodynamic status using advanced monitoring techniques.
- Administer medications including vasoactive drips and continuous IV sedation.
- Manage specialized equipment such as IABP Impella VADs pacemakers CRRT/Dialysis and ventilators.
- Perform and assist with special procedures including CABG OHS AAA valvular repairs and ECMO.
- Respond to and manage cardiac emergencies including dysrhythmias and multi-system organ failure.
- Ensure proper setup and care of chest tubes.
- Perform rapid sequence intubation (RSI) and manage patients requiring procedure sedation.
- Obtain 12-lead EKGs and interpret dysrhythmias.
- Provide comprehensive ventilator management including high-frequency ventilation.
- Adhere to infection prevention and isolation precautions.
- Document patient care accurately and efficiently using EPIC charting.
Required Skills & Certifications:
- Active Registered Nurse license.
- ACLS and BCLS certifications.
- Minimum of 2.5 years of CVICU experience.
- Recent CVICU experience (within the last 6 months).
- Proficiency in interpretation and management of dysrhythmias.
- Competency in managing patients with multi-system organ failure.
- Experience with sheath removal.
- Experience with CVVHD/CRRT.
- Proficiency in IV therapy skills including accessing ports arterial line management blood product administration central line care PICC line management and starting IVs.
- Expertise in titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips.
- Knowledge of hypothermia protocols.
- Ventilator management skills including high-flow nasal cannula and interpretation of ABGs.
- Knowledge of infection prevention and isolation precautions.
- Experience with surgical wounds with drains/wound vac.
- CRRT Prismaflex certification.
- Experience with IABP and fresh open-heart patients.
Preferred Skills & Certifications:
- Experience in Neuro Intensive Care Unit or Surgical Intensive Care Unit.
- ECMO and Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation/Replacement (TAVI/TAVR) experience.
- Experience with chronic/acute renal failure.
- CVA/Acute Stroke management experience.
- Phlebotomy skills.
- EPIC charting experience.
- Maquet Datascope balloon experience.
Special Considerations:
- Float may be required.
