Job Summary

Introduction

The Maryland Insurance Administration (MIA) isan independent State agency that regulates Marylands $49 billion insuranceindustry and protects consumers by monitoring and enforcing insurers andinsurance professionals compliance with State law. Staff members aresubject matter experts who serve as a resource for lawmakers consumers and otherpublic and private entities.


The MIA is charged with a broad range of responsibilities including thelicensure of insurance carriers and insurance producers (brokers/agents)operating in Maryland the conduct of financial examinations of companies tomonitor financial solvency and the review and approval of rates and contractforms. The MIA investigates reports of consumer fraud and consumercomplaints about life health automobile homeowners and/or propertyinsurance. Insurance carriers are subject to market conduct examinationsand other actions to monitor compliance with Maryland law. The MIA alsohas a unit dedicated to consumer education and outreach which participates inhundreds of events and reaches thousands of individual consumers annually.

POSITION DUTIES

The Maryland Insurance AdministrationsFinancial Regulation Division is recruiting to fill a Junior position reviews initial registration applications todetermine whether organizations should be permitted to conduct insurancerelated business in Maryland and reviews renewal applications for businesses alreadyauthorized to transact insurance related business in Maryland. The JuniorAnalyst notifiescompanies of upcoming license expiration and provides instructions anddocumentation to facilitate license renewal; analyzes financial statements and audited financial statements toensure minimum surplus and capital requirements are met to approve continuedlicensing for various renewal application types; and enforces Maryland laws andregulations to ensure compliance with renewal application job duties include reconciling check deposit entries with reportsmaintained by the agencys Fiscal Services Unit and accurately processing thatinformation in the SalesForce system; and maintaining and performing datavalidation in that system. The Junior Analyst is also responsible for processing and maintainingrecords of all legal documents (i.e. writs of garnishment subpoenas andsummonses).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of 60 credit hours at an accredited collegeor university.

Experience: Two years of administrative experience inan office environment.

Note: Additional administrative experience may be substituted on ayear-for-year basis for up to two years of the required education.
