Purpose of the Job
The Intern in the Green Financial Systems (GFS) team of the Climate Strategy and Delivery (CSD) Business Group supports the integration of the EBRDs Paris alignment and Green Economy Transition (GET) approaches into banking operations focusing on climate transition planning of financial institutions. Reporting to a GFS Principal/ Associate Director the role includes supporting effective delivery of technical assistance to financial institutions at the transaction level and through capacity building activities and all aspects of monitoring reporting and verification (MRV) technical cooperation management and policy dialogue activities to promote sustainable finance aligned with climate goals. As such the Intern may be involved in all tasks related to EBRD project life cycle development and implementation including project origination structuring execution monitoring technical cooperation and donor financing. As needed the Intern will support special projects related to greening the financial system.
Accountabilities and Responsibilities
- Support implementation of the EBRDs Climate Transition Programmes and related support for partner financial institutions including monitoring milestones compiling updates and preparing materials for capacity building and alumni engagement.
- Support data management and research by collecting and organising data related to client transition planning and disclosures to support internal analysis.
- Structure and help manage assignments for technical and policy services to clients including policy and capacity building advice.
- In cooperation with relevant units within the Bank support selected policy dialogue projects and contribute to policy dialogue activities in a leading role or support function with local authorities and industry associations to improve the investment climate and strengthen the EBRD impact in the area of climate transition planning.
- Support internal capacity building related to climate transition coordinating training sessions and establishing and maintaining resources for team development.
- Work as a supporting project team member to contribute to all aspects of project structuring and execution including implementing and monitoring.
- Provide necessary support in the form of relevant information or documentation for meetings efforts to procure grants and technical cooperation funds or as part of policy dialogue efforts.
Knowledge Skills Experience and Qualifications
- Degree preferably in a technical discipline (e.g. engineering or economics or environmental science) or a combination of commercial and technical skills.
- Knowledge and/or experience with climate or green finance initiatives and the financial sector.
- Sound understanding of business and finance principles.
- Knowledge and/or experience in emerging markets including EBRD regions.
- Knowledge and/or experience in engineering and/or consultancy companies operations; or a bank equity fund advisory services corporate finance firm. A track record of successful project design development or management is advantageous.
- Analytical and research skills with strong problem-solving abilities and abilities to synthesise complex information into actionable insights. Understanding of systems thinking and change management is advantageous.
- Good understanding of policy analysis and policy formulation in the areas of climate change resource efficiency and energy efficiency and technology transfer.
- Computer literacy and excellent written/oral communication skills in English are essential; other languages from the EBRD region are advantageous.
- Ability to operate consistently within business guidelines and ethics and work sensitively in multicultural environments building effective working relations with clients and colleagues.
- Self-motivated ability to work to and meet tight deadlines and to plan and organise work unsupervised in a logical and efficient manner.
- Ability to communicate appropriate concise and accurate information in verbal and written formats appropriate to the audience.
