What is the compensation package

(G23 24 25) $21.99 - $33.43 per hour (depending on experience)

What are the main duties

  • Safely operate a variety of light and heavy construction equipment including trenchers dump trucks backhoes ditch witches chipper machines concrete saw sod cutter and other machinery.

  • Place traffic cones signs and barricades for the protection of employees and members of the public.

  • Perform pre- and post-trip inspections to ensure vehicle safety.

  • Perform routine equipment cleaning and minor repairs and maintenance on equipment in the field.

  • Dig holes for power poles and the installation of anchor rods.

  • Set install and repair streetlights bases and underground street lighting wire.

  • Perform preventative maintenance and repair of any equipment.

  • Install poles and maintain underground conduits power silos transformer pads.

  • May lead and train individual workers or a crew in building construction maintenance and grounds care.

  • Purchase materials.

  • Complete reports and daily records of equipment used completed operations and pre- and post-inspections.

  • Assist other crew members as needed and perform other related duties as required.

What are the minimum requirements

  • At all levels a valid lawful Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL) with Tanker (N) endorsement is required within 6 months. A Flagger Certificate is also required within the first 6 months of hire.

  • Equipment Operator I: 1 year of experience as a laborer construction equipment operator maintenance worker or light truck operator.

  • Equipment Operator II: 2 years of experience as an Equipment Operator OR 3 years of experience in the safe and skilled operation of light and heavy construction equipment.

  • Sr. Equipment Operator: 2 years of experience as an Equipment Operator Il OR 5 years of experience in the safe and skilled operation of construction heavy equipment. Lead work or supervisory experience preferred.

What is the selection process

Applications will be reviewed in the order they are submitted with the first screening being held on November 18 2025. Applicants mustmeet the minimum qualifications listed above to be eligible for consideration.

If selected for hire candidate will be required to successfully pass a drug screen and criminal background check. Non-disclosure may result in dismissal. Applicants with unsatisfactory drug screen results will be ineligible for appointment or application to any Provo City position for a minimum period of six (6) months.
