Associate degree from an accredited Nursing program

BSN preferred

Current RN licensure or compact licensure recognized by the Texas Board of Nursing upon hire

3 years experience as a registered nurse in LTAC acute care setting or utilization review required

LTAC Critical care or Progressive Care experience preferred

What You Will Do

You are the true Lifeline for the patient conducting patient assessments to determine medical necessity admissions screening for referrals insurance approvals working as a liaison with other hospitals to bring in patients to our facility and coordinating care with nursing CTMs families and physicians.

Assess the patient

Administrative and Telephonic task such as collecting medical information and ensuring all insurance paperwork is in order.

Update insurance case managers on patients progress throughout hospital stay

Manages continued-stay authorizations as needed and with compliance to all regulatory and contractual requirements.

Maintains a working knowledge of care management utilization review changes authorization changes contract changes and other regulatory requirements and/or changes.

Provides consultation to medical and nursing staff health information management and payers on potential issues with reimbursement of hospitalization.

Collaborates and communicates with payers via phone fax or computer system per payer contract and/or request.

Initiates and facilitates physician communications relative to the utilization review process and assists and facilitates the physician peer-to-peer review process with insurance medical directors as indicated.

Communicates payer issues and medical necessity concerns with members of the hospital interdisciplinary team.

Responsible for interacting proactively with hospital leadership on potentially negative patient financial situations.

Works effectively with the interdisciplinary team in daily care briefing and patient care conference to raise awareness of imminent need for patient discharge.

Provides patient and family members with information concerning third-party payer coverage and patient financial responsibilities for non-covered services.

Work hours: PRN as needed to cover staff PTO days; work schedule could be M-F between the hours of 8a -5p/8-hour shifts
