Overview

Oversee and manage all aspects of inventory control across retail store and distribution center operations. Responsible for ensuring inventory accuracy as reported in the financial statements and internal inventory systems and for improving inventory reporting control and reconciliation. Oversee compliance with generally accepted accounting principles corporate policies and external audits. Oversee the monthly closing of inventory related accounts and reserves and preparation of reports in support of the financial statements and external reporting requirements. Reports to and work closely with the Controller and others in the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the accurate timely and reliable reporting of all merchandise inventories in the financial ledger system including receipts shipments sales markdowns transfers shrink in-transit physical inventory counts cycle counts and gross margin.
  • Develop document implement and manage inventory control procedures to ensure accuracy and compliance with company policies.
  • Oversee inventory tracking systems (e.g. SIM PkMS and RMS) and ensure they are up-to-date and function effectively.
  • Train and supervise inventory staff to follow inventory best practices.
  • Analyze inventory data to identify trends variances and opportunities for process improvement.
  • Collaborate with Finance and business teams to identify trends in inventory levels including shrinkage and obsolescence; collaborate with store operations to implement and maintain shrinkage control program.
  • Create and implement policies and procedures; develop and ensure adherence to physical inventory procedures for cycle and full physical counts; oversee annual physical counts at retail locations and cycle counts in the Distribution Center; analyze discrepancies and implement corrective actions.
  • Support internal research and inquiries along with supporting external requests for summary or detailed information with regards to inventory balances in-transit activity margin and reserves.
  • Direct reports: Manager inventory accounting and Inventory accountant.

Qualifications

  • Solid understanding of accounting principles general ledger functionality and SOX/internal controls.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills as this position interacts with external business partners and executives throughout the company.
  • Experience in high volume transaction driven multi-location operations is an asset.
  • Ability to manage multiple short and long-term projects to timely completion.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Creative problem-solving abilities critical thinking skills and attention to detail.
  • Strond Excel skills.
  • Ability to maintain flexibility in a fast-paced environment and continuously evolve to meet changing business needs.
  • Ability to build partnerships influence decisions and work in a collaborative style.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting Finance or related field
  • 10 years total experience including experience with inventory management and control
  • Experience working in or with a multi-channel retailer is an asset
  • Experience with Oracle Retail Management System (RMS) large system implementation and/or change management is an asset
