Qualifications:
- Approved Early Childhood credential:
- Associates Degree in Early Childhood (EC)/PreK Education or Child Development;OR
- Child Development Credential (CDA);OR
- 120 clock hours of documented formalECeducation offered by approved training organizations and approved by MDE;OR
- Be enrolled in an appropriate training program to be completed within two (2) years; employee is required to turn in progress with transcripts of courses completion (semester annually)
- Passing LARA Child Care Background Check
- Passing Tuberculosis (TB) Test
- Understanding of the laws surrounding confidentiality of staff and students specifically FERPA
- Evidence of good interpersonal skills with colleagues
- Willingness to learn acquire and apply new skills and knowledge
- Evidence of adaptability and problem-solving skills
Essential Functions and Duties
- Provide positive communication between administration staff and students
- Assist administration staff students parents and community members in any way possible with a helpful and courteous attitude
- Discuss student progress or concerns with teacher parent and administrator
- Report and record behavioral issues to teacher and/or administrator
- Maintain a record of classroom objectives
- Behavior changes
- Academic struggles
- Discipline issues
- Communicate professionally and effectively with the parents teachers and administrators
- Understand the students Individual Educational Plan (IEP) and/or other modifications to a students traditional educational day
- Assist individuals or groups of students in completion of lessons assigned by teacher
- Read aloud to individual students or in small groups
- With teacher direction assist with practice activities and drills (i.e. flash cards spelling words multiplication tables etc.)
- Reinforce learning objectives; with teacher direction create and/or modify learning materials
- Administer tests to students
- Assist students with written activities and organizational skills
- Assist students with technology skills
- Monitor student classwork and homework completion
- Support teacher-directed behavioral modification plans
- Assist with crisis intervention
- Provide personal care assistance when needed
- Assist with mobility when needed
