Salary Range: $62000.00 - $79000.00
Job Overview:
Mt. Edgecumbe Medical Center is seeking an experienced Surgical Technologist to join our team in beautiful Sitka Alaska. This role plays a vital part in ensuring high-quality patient care during surgical procedures by providing support to surgeons and operating room staff. The ideal candidate is skilled in sterile technique patient positioning and surgical instrumentation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Scrub in on surgical procedures under professional nurse supervision for a variety of advanced and complex surgeries.
- Anticipate surgeon preferences for instruments supplies and materials to ensure seamless procedures.
- Set up and maintain a sterile surgical field including instruments equipment supplies and medications.
- Assist in the cleaning sterilization and reassembly of instruments and prepare them for terminal sterilization.
- Monitor and maintain inventory of surgical supplies to ensure availability and sterility.
- Participate in education programs learning aids and in-service training for continuous professional development.
- Provide input on policy procedure and patient care standard improvements.
- Additional Responsibilities:
- Serve on assigned hospital committees as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Completion of a Surgical Technologist Training Program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or any US Department of Education-recognized accrediting agency.
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) preferred; if not certified certification must be obtained within six months of hire.
- In certain cases five years of relevant experience may substitute for certification.
Certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification (AHA required) must be obtained within three months of hire and renewed bi-annually.
- Surgical Technician Certification (CST) National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) preferred.
Experience & Skills:
- Previous hospital operating room experience required.
- Strong understanding of anatomy physiology wound healing and complications.
- Proficient in sterile technique patient positioning and surgical equipment handling.
- Ability to anticipate and respond to surgical team requests during procedures.
