3 months contract with a Local Authority
Job Summary:
Thurrock Council is seeking an experienced Waste Collection Round Leader (HGV) to join the Waste Services Waste Collection team.
This is a temporary 12-week contract offering a key frontline role in ensuring the effective and efficient collection of household waste across the borough.
The successful candidate will lead a small crew operate HGV vehicles and ensure all waste collection duties are completed safely on time and to a high standard.
Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample):
Lead and coordinate a waste collection crew to ensure timely and accurate completion of daily collection rounds.
Operate a Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) safely and in line with road safety and council regulations.
Carry out routine vehicle checks and report any defects or maintenance issues.
Ensure compliance with all health and safety procedures including manual handling and PPE use.
Liaise with supervisors and the depot to report missed collections incidents or route issues.
Assist with loading and unloading waste when required this is a hands-on physical role.
Maintain high standards of customer service when interacting with members of the public.
Skills/Experience:
Proven experience in waste collection refuse driving or similar manual labour environment.
Experience leading or supervising a small operational team (desirable).
Strong awareness of health and safety regulations particularly relating to waste operations.
Good communication and teamwork skills.
Physically fit and able to undertake manual handling tasks.
Reliable punctual and committed to providing a high-quality public service.
Additional Information:
Valid HGV Class 2 (Category C) Licence (essential).
Valid CPC (Driver Certificate of Professional Competence) (essential).
Location: Oliver Close West Thurrock Essex RM20 3ED.
