- This is a 3-month contract role with a local authority designed to lead and manage the compliance and assurance function across the Councils corporate and commercial estate portfolio. The position ensures that all buildings are safe legally compliant and strategically managed safeguarding the organization against breaches of statutory and regulatory duties. The role is crucial in identifying mitigating and escalating risks appropriately.
Responsibilities
- Manage the compliance and assurance function fostering a culture of proactive risk management and technical excellence.
- Lead a team of professional technical compliance and assurance officers.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation and standards in areas such as gas water fire electrics mechanical asbestos and radon.
- Develop and manage compliance and assurance programs using the Councils CAFM and related platforms.
- Produce professional reports and assurance updates for executive management Members of Parliament elected members and boards.
- Maintain a comprehensive risk register for building safety and compliance developing robust mitigation plans.
- Manage supplier and contractor performance ensuring value for money and adherence to obligations.
- Act as a key liaison with internal teams external partners regulators and statutory bodies.
Essential Experience Required
- Significant experience in a senior compliance/assurance role managing large or complex estates portfolios.
- Experience leading investigations and enforcement actions.
- Experience in a local authority public sector or parliamentary setting.
- At least 5 years of post-graduation experience in technical building compliance.
- Experience managing and leading a team in a complex environment.
Essential Qualifications Required
- Chartered professional status (RICS CIOB CIBSE IMechE IET IStructE or equivalent) is essential.
- A postgraduate qualification in compliance risk management or leadership is desirable.
Additional Information
- Working hours: 37 hours per week
- Location and working arrangements: One Angel Square Hybrid must be in office on Mondays and Wednesdays at least
