Senior Linux and Android System Performance and Stability Expert

Unit and team Overview

Infotainment platforms unit is responsible for developing maintaining and deploying BMW infotainment platform. BMW infotainment platform is Linux (Yocto) based SW platform that provides common automotive functions used by multiple automotive ECUs. The unit is also responsible for cross-cutting concerns of the platform like architecture security stability and performance. The platform is deployed into multiple infotainment domain ECUs ranging from headunits and rear seat entertainment systems to telematics and audio ECUs.

Team description

The system engineering team is responsible for configuring and optimising the software of our next generation Linux and Android control units. The team works on the overall Linux and Android stack in very close cooperation with architects development and test teams. The topics range from bootloader and kernel to Android end-user applications.

Job Description

Key responsibilities specific tasks projects/areas of focus

As a system expert ...

- You deliver and maintain the system software configuration (boot sequence cgroups namespaces containers).

- You debug transversal software pathologies related to performance stability and resource usage.

- You monitor system resources (i.e. RAM CPU ...) and budget those

- You perform code reviews and propose improvements so that SW design complies with architecture and performance KPIs.

- You develop proof-of-concepts in order to consolidate architecture decisions.

- You implement dedicated tools to support above activities.

Qualifications Experience and Skills

Basic requirements and Education

- Deep architectural understanding of Linux- and Android-based embedded systems

- Strong hands-on knowledge of software analysis debugging tracing tools

- Proven experience in performance optimization using Perfetto and SimplePerf

- Hands-on expertise in CPU GPU and Memory configuration methods

- Strong experience in leading large distributed software development teams

- Strong communication and negotiation skills

- Passion for analyzing and resolving complex problems

- Business fluent English

- University degree in computer science or a comparable field of study with a Linux & Android focus
