The University of Iowa department of Facilities Management is seeking anAssociate Director Custodial Services.As a key leader within the Facilities Management Custodial Services unit this position is responsible for overseeing the care and cleaning of General Education Funded (GEF) facilities and select auxiliary buildings ensuring operational excellence and alignment with university standards. This role serves as the primary liaison to campus stakeholders proactively identifying and responding to customer needs while fostering strong relationships and delivering high-quality service. Through strategic planning performance management and continuous improvement initiatives position will be responsible for driving custodial operations that directly impact the functionality safety and appearance of campus environments. Responsible for playing a critical role in short- and long-term planning resource optimization and quality assurance contributing to the overall success of university facilities and enhancing the campus experience.
Duties to include:
Oversight of budget process for custodial shops under portfolio.
Act as a member of the Custodial Services department leadership team.
Manage equipment needs of unit including scheduling purchasing and maintenance.
Assist in leading the professionals of the Building & Landscape Services (BLS) custodial operation in providing care cleaning and other services for general education fund buildings and auxiliary locations.
Understand all employee work assignments and schedule adequate coverage.
Ensure the development and implementation of training programs designed to develop standard methods and use of materials; implement the use of new methods systems and materials. Delegate to and hold subordinates responsible for satisfactory performance of assignments.
Maintain effective working relationships with faculty staff students and the public.

About Facilities Management:
Facilities Management (FM) is a service unit of approximately 500 employees who work behind the scenes 24 hours a day serving the University of Iowa as stewards of our beautiful Iowa City campus. FM staff coordinate campus master planning manage design & construction maintain & clean the buildings & grounds and provide utilities management.

Minimum Eligibility Requirements:
Bachelors degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Professional experience (typically 7 years 9 years) in a leadership position for a Facilities Management organization.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Demonstrated track record of effective management of custodial operations and success in organizational development and improvements.
Demonstrated experience in innovative improvements in customer relations and appearance of facilities.
Strategic leadership experience including demonstrated ability to plan coordinate analyze execute and document specific administrative and management functions with a sense of the long-term goals of the department.
Proven ability to implement process improvement and organizational change.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Outlook and basic internet/intranet usage.
Professional experience working effectively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives.
Desirable Qualifications:
Professional experience (typically 9 years or more) of custodial leadership experience.
Supervisory experience at the University of Iowa.
Experience in a union environment.
Knowledge of applicable University policies collective bargaining agreements and relevant federal and state regulations.
Experience within a large and/or complex institutional or corporate campus.
Familiarity with a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) preferably AiM.
