This hands-on role in the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences (FMHS) supports the delivery of high-quality safe and engaging laboratory-based learning experiences. As a technician in the Multi-Disciplinary Laboratories (MDLS) you will play a vital role in preparing maintaining and supporting the technical infrastructure that underpins practical teaching across a wide range of disciplines including the Medical Sciences and MBChB programmes.
Youll work closely with academic and technical staff to ensure that laboratory spaces are well-equipped compliant and ready for teaching. Your expertise will help maintain specialist equipment manage hazardous substances and support the delivery of practical sessions that enhance student learning.
Key responsibilities include:
- Preparing and maintaining laboratory spaces equipment and consumables for teaching activities.
- Supporting the setup operation and pack-down of laboratory sessions across multiple disciplines.
- Providing technical assistance and demonstrating equipment and techniques to staff and students.
- Ensuring compliance with health and safety containment and hazardous substance regulations.
- Maintaining accurate records of equipment use risk assessments and inventory.
- Supporting the development and testing of new teaching activities and outreach events.
- Acting as a Designated Lab Person (DLP) first aider or fire warden as required.
This is a full-time (37.5 hours/week) permanent opportunity
The salary range of $64000 $68000 per annum depending on skills and experience.

Our Technical Services team provides essential expertise in laboratory operations compliance and teaching support ensuring that academic staff and students have the resources facilities and guidance needed to succeed.

We are seeking a proactive and adaptable individual with strong technical skills and a passion for supporting student learning. You will be confident working across a range of laboratory environments and techniques and committed to maintaining high standards of safety compliance and operational excellence.
- A Bachelors degree in Biomedical or Biological Sciences (or equivalent).
- 2 4 years of experience in biological or biomedical sciences including time gained during tertiary study.
- Proven technical competence across a wide range of laboratory techniques.
- Experience supporting teaching activities in a tertiary education setting.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- A commitment to health and safety compliance and continuous improvement.
- A full drivers license is essential.
