Job Description Summary
The Emerging Library Technologies and Research Librarian identifies investigates and integrates emerging technologies (e.g. AI virtual reality etc.) into the core teaching and research mission of the library and university curriculum. This position supports library initiatives focusing on emerging technologies and collaborations with Library Research and Data Services and Library AI Literacy and Instructional Services to expand assess and improve these addition this position participates in reference collection development and liaison work; provides library instruction in various formats including research and library information sessions embedded in classes and individual research consultations with faculty and students; develops and delivers workshops in consultation with the Associate and Assistant Deans focusing on emerging library and academic technologies and research methodologies; serves on library committees and as needed university-wide committees; works on special projects; and other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities
Technology Investigations Monitor trends in emerging technologies (e.g. AI VR/AR etc.) relevant to academic libraries. Evaluate potential applications of new tools and platforms for library services and academic support. Innovation & Implementation Lead pilot projects and initiatives to integrate emerging technologies into library operations and services in collaboration with IS&T the Leatherby Libraries Leadership Council Library Research and Data Services and Library AI Literacy and Instructional Services. Provide full support and back-up to current library operations and systems in consultation with the Senior Library Technician including maintenance troubleshooting and resolutions with vendors who supply the librarys software technologies and systems. Assessment & Reporting Assess the impact and effectiveness of library technology initiatives. Prepare reports and presentations for stakeholders on outcomes and recommendations. Library Instruction & Liaison Support Participate in reference collection development (including existing and new digital tools and born-digital resources) and liaison work. Provide library instruction in various formats including research and library information sessions embedded in classes and individual research consultations with faculty and students. Develop and deliver workshops in consultation with the Associate and Assistant Deans focusing on emerging library and academic technologies and research methodologies (e.g. systematic reviews AI literacy etc.). Committees & Special Projects Serve on library committees and as needed university-wide committees. Work on special projects and other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
A.L.A. accredited M.L.S. degree or equivalent experience and education. Demonstrated ability and experience in reference services collection development library research and instruction and liaison support in an academic library. Excellent writing communication and interpersonal skills to interact with individuals at all organizational levels both inside and outside the university. Demonstrated commitment to customer service and working in a team environment. Proven ability to exercise sound judgment and make appropriate decisions/recommendations. Commitment to professional growth and development. Demonstrated knowledge of a full variety of online database products and trends in online service access. Demonstrated ability to prioritize and coordinate work among different projects. Proven ability to offer new approaches and innovation as appropriate to the position (e.g. open educational resources data and AI literacy). Knowledge of the writing and publishing (e.g. scholarly communications open access) process. Demonstrated knowledge of research methodologies emerging technologies and processes (e.g. systematic reviews etc.).
