High School Drama Technical Assistant
Position Summary
The High School Drama Technical Assistant supports the drama program by managing and operating technical elements of theater productions events and performances. This role assists with lighting sound set construction props and backstage coordination to ensure safe professional-quality productions that enhance the educational and artistic experience of students.
Job Title: High School Drama Technical Assistant
Stipend: 5%
Employment Term: Employment length tied to the schools production season or annual schedule
Reports To: High School Drama Director and Activities Director/Building Principal
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical theater or performing arts coursework preferred.
- Experience in one or more areas of technical theater (lighting sound carpentry stage management).
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as required by rehearsal and performance schedules.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work collaboratively with students staff and volunteers.
- Commitment to maintaining a safe environment.
Essential Functions
- Assist in the planning setup and operation of lighting sound and stage equipment for rehearsals and performances.
- Support the design construction and painting of sets scenery and props.
- Maintain an organized and safe scene shop prop storage and costume areas.
- Train and supervise student crew members in the proper use of technical theater equipment.
- Lead responsibility for all backstage management during live performances (scene changes cues etc.).
- Collaborate with the Drama Director staff and student leaders to execute productions.
- Ensure compliance with fire codes and safety protocols when working with tools electrical equipment and stage rigging.
- Manage and maintain technical inventory and theater technology tools and supplies.
- Serve as technical liaison with the building facilities/maintenance department.
- Provide technical support for school assemblies or special events as assigned.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

The usual and customary methods of performing the position functions require the following physical demands: lifting carrying pushing pulling climbing reaching driving standing and walking. Working conditions may include extreme temperatures and humidity. Hazards may include exposure to communicable diseases. This position requires one to maintain emotional control under stress.
