Applications are invited for two postdoc positions with SDU Health Informatics and Technology (HIT) The Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller Institute (MMMI) University of Southern Denmark (SDU) Odense. Both positions are for 2 years with the possibility of extension depending on possible additional funding. The positions will be part of two externally funded projects WISDOM and CHOICE. The planned starting date for the positions is February 15 2026.

Research projects

WISDOM (funded by Horizon Europe; 2023-2028) is led by the Karolinska Institute in Sweden and has partners from 10 different European countries. SDU HITs role in WISDOM is development and implementation of responsible state-of-the-art artificial intelligence mediated models and decision support systems for chronic immune-mediated diseases (in particular multiple sclerosis). ( (funded by NordForsk; 2025-2029) is led by Odense University Hospital in Denmark and has partners in Denmark Norway and Sweden. SDU HITs role in CHOICE is adaptation and implementation of responsible state-of-the-art artificial intelligence mediated models and decision support systems for identification of people at risk of osteoporosis. Both postdoc positions will focus on development and implementation of AI-based decision support in clinical practice using a co-design methodology.

In relation to WISDOM the goal is to develop and evaluate a demonstrator (TRL 5-6) that supports selected use cases related to shared decision making by patients and health care professionals in multiple sclerosis management.

In relation to CHOICE the goal is to develop and evaluate a decision support system (TRL 8-9) that is integrated with the general practitioners electronic health record system XMO from CompuGroup Medical.

Both postdoc positions will contribute to each project and will require close collaboration between the selected candidates as well as project members from WISDOM and CHOICE.

Ideal candidates

To qualify for the postdoc positions you must hold a Ph.D. degree in software engineering artificial intelligence computer science or a related discipline.

The ideal candidates will have many of the following competences.

  • software engineering experience (full stack development)
  • artificial intelligence experience (including explainability and interpretability)
  • experience in interdisciplinary work
  • experience in working with external stakeholders and domain experts (i.e. using the co-design method)
  • experience in development of AI-augmented decision support tools
  • experience in UI and UX design
  • knowledge of the health domain

We envision hiring postdocs with different profiles that in combination possess the listed competences. Profile 1 will be mostly software engineering oriented while Profile 2 will be mostly artificial intelligence and decision support oriented.

About MMMI and SDU HIT

MMMI is an internationally recognized research department that conducts research within robotics drone technology artificial intelligence I4.0 software engineering as well as health and energy informatics.

SDU HIT conducts interdisciplinary research related to data driven health technology in close collaboration with experts from various fields. There is a strong emphasis on the development of high TRL systems related to intelligent monitoring and decision support; predictive models for prevention early detection diagnosis treatment and prognosis; digital health systems offering novel personalized data collection treatment plans and interventions. SDU HIT has research activities in areas such as geriatrics mental health compassion cancer cardiology osteoporosis and multiple sclerosis.

Conditions of employment

Appointment as postdoc is temporary foran initial 2-year period and the preferred start date is from February 15 may be possible depending on available as a postdoc requires scientific qualifications at PhD level at the time of will be in accordance with the collective agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations for academics in the state with the associated circular on the protocol for the job structure for academic staff at Danish universities and the provisions for postdoc as described herein.Further information on salary and person employed in the position may based on a specific individual managerial evaluation be exempted from time registration also known as a self-organizer.
