Description:

Student Nurse PCT performs a variety of direct patient care procedures to assist the unit manager professional staff and physicians in providing patient care focused on the needs of the patient.

GENERAL PATIENT CARE: meets the comfort and hygiene needs of the patient by providing care services such as bathing oral hygiene procedures hair care bed pan/urinal use skin care and garment linen and bedding changes distributes meals and beverages takes vital signs collects lab specimens.

TECHNICAL CARE: assists with completion of patient testing and treatment procedures changes dressings performs cardiopulmonary resuscitation obtains wound and throat cultures.

EQUIPMENT: assists physician and professional staff in equipment supply and set up.

TRANSPORT: assists with ambulating patients with assistive devices as crutches and with transfer/transport procedures.

COMMUNICATION: performs required documentation and communicates in a competent and effective manner to meet patient and /or family needs and regulatory requirements. Maintains strict confidentiality of patient employee and department information to ensure patient rights.

QUALITY IMPROVEMENT: utilizes time and resources effectively to promote quality and cost outcomes. Loyola is committed to the continuous improvement of the services it provides to its patients and their families. All Loyola employees are expected to participate in quality improvement activities.

OTHER: performs other department specific duties as assigned.

Complexity Factor: Work consists of duties involving several related sequential steps processes or methods. Duties require consideration of factors and conditions that are apparent and readily verifiable. (Ex. Occupational Therapy Asst Echo Tech LPN Clerk Secretary).

Patient Population Specific Competencies: Demonstrates the skills and knowledge necessary to provide appropriate care to the patient populations served by the specific unit to which the incumbent is assigned. Must be able to assess data reflective of the patients status and interpret appropriate information needed to identify each patients requirement relative to population specific needs.

The primary patient population for the unit is (ie clinical disease culture special needs etc.)

Age Specific Competencies: Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development for the appropriate age span of the units patients.

Impact Factor: Work has little impact beyond the immediate area. Minor impact on student or patient well-being comfort or convenience. (Ex. Dietary Aide Distribution Tech File Clerk Patient Transporter)

Freedom of Action: Specific detailed instruction provided for new or difficult assignments. Employee performs recurring tasks independently.

Compensation:

Salary Range: $16.49 - $24.44 per hour

Actual compensation will fall within the range but may vary based on factors such as experience qualifications education location licensure certification requirements and comparisons to colleagues in similar roles.
