Recognized consistently by Princeton Review as one of the Best College Libraries The College of Wooster Libraries seeks an innovative librarian to provide liaison services for science (STEM) disciplines lead library assessment and analytics and implement emerging technologies to support faculty and student research. The Science & Assessment Librarian plays a key role in helping the Libraries foster an environment where a diverse community of learners can discover create communicate and preserve knowledge and cultivating a community of learners librarians support students on their journey to completing Independent Study. Independent Study is the culmination of the College of Wooster experience where students produce and publish original research and scholarship!

SUMMARY

Reporting to the Librarian of the College the Science & Assessment Librarian offers instruction and research consultations manages collection development and acts as a liaison to science departments and programs. Responsible for coordinating the Libraries assessment efforts this includes gathering analyzing and communicating data that shows the impact and value of library services spaces and resources. Additionally the Science & Assessment Librarian will lead the Libraries exploration and contribute to campus-wide initiatives involving artificial intelligence.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as liaison librarian for the sciences supporting student and faculty research needs.
  • Provide reference and research consultation services in the sciences.
  • Create and lead course-integrated instruction on scientific information literacy.
  • Teach the use of science and technical databases including bibliographic and scholarly impact metrics and grey literature.
  • Provide general library instruction sessions for assigned First-Year Seminars information workshops and other classes as needed.
  • Select evaluate and manage science-related collections in all formats to meet the research needs of the college community.
  • Evaluatelibrary programs resources and servicesby designingimplementing and analyzingassessmentsthat usequantitative and qualitative data as appropriate.
  • Support ongoing library assessment practices with ACRL IPEDS as well as collaborations with the colleges Institutional Research department.
  • Lead the exploration and evaluation of artificial intelligence technologies relevant to library resources services teaching and instruction.
  • Support campus-wide initiatives for the development of policy programming and training on responsible artificial intelligence use ethics and bias mitigation.
  • Manage Timken Science Librarys physical collection and spaces in collaboration with the Science Library Associate and the Libraries Administrative Coordinator. This includes tracking and reporting Timkens maintenance needs and supporting the buildings operational hours (as needed) with opening/closing the building.
  • Keep abreast of new developments in scientific publishing emerging technologies and trends in libraries and the academy.
  • Participate in college and library governance via faculty library and professional committee work and meetings.
  • Perform other related duties as may be assigned by the Librarian of the College.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

  • Masters degree in Library and Information Science/Studies (MLIS) from an ALA-accredited program or equivalent advanced degree in a relevant science (STEM) discipline.
  • Demonstrated record of a science-related education or work experience as a science educator.
  • Experience delivering instruction (will also consider library internships post-secondary experiences in addition to formal teaching and instruction in a classroom setting).
  • Familiarity with assessment methods and metrics related to library use statistics comparative analysis user needs & feedback and research impact etc.
  • Demonstrated excellence with interpersonal presentation and communication skills.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

  • A degree in a related science (STEM) field.
  • Familiarity with artificial intelligence concepts tools and ethical considerations.
  • Experience with implementing an assessment program.
  • Experience with teaching the use of science and technical databases including knowledge of bibliographic and scholarly impact metrics and grey literature.
  • Experience creating learning materials and tools for a post-secondary learning environment.
  • Familiarity with academic library assessment instruments.
  • Knowledge (employment internship or coursework) specific to working in an academic library.
  • Demonstrated experience establishing productive working relationships with students and faculty.
  • Experience working with undergraduate students and background in interpreting the librarys resources to others.
  • Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds.
