APSSP - Chaplain

The Waterloo Catholic District School Board serves over 38000 learners and provides services to students in 50 schools (Kindergarten to Grade 12 and adult learners) across the Waterloo Region.

General Description of Duties:

This position currently focuses on ministry to elementary students in Grades JK8 with particular emphasis on facilitating retreat experiences. The scope of responsibilities may evolve and change in response to system- wide needs.

All elementary schools engage their Grade 8 studentsand occasionally Grade 7in retreats lasting one to three days. Schools assume responsibility for evening and overnight supervision. Chaplains play an active role by visiting classrooms presiding at liturgies and providing crisis support. They collaborate closely with school staff fellow chaplains parish teams system-level personnel and parents.

The successful candidate will offer pastoral ethical doctrinal liturgical and theological leadership to the school communities in which they work and facilitate retreats.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Masters degree in religious studies theology divinity liturgy or youth ministry
  • A certificate in pastoral or youth ministry (or equivalent background).
  • Evidence of experience working with youth and collaborating with other adults.
  • Demonstrated organizational communication and facilitation skills.
  • Willing to participate in school-wide meetings events conferences committees and teams including Parent Advisory Council Program Council GSA group Catholic Education Week weekly school masses and school liturgies.
  • Certification in first aid or CPR or commitment to obtain certificate.
  • Must possess a valid drivers license and be able to use own vehicle.
  • Ability to liaise with parish priests.
Salary Range: $66751.00 $ $77573 .00 per year based on 42 weeks per year in accordance with the provisions of the APSSP Collective Agreement.

Hours of Work : Permenant full time: 35 hours per week / 42 weeks per year

Location: Primarily elementary schools within the region. Support at secondary schools as required.
