Charles R. Drew University is located in the Watts-Willowbrook area of south Los Angeles and was founded in 1966 in the wake of the Watts uprising. CDU was founded to address inadequate medical care in the region and to provide equitable medical education opportunities for underrepresented students.
CDU is strongly invested in the local and regional community. The university leads multiple partnerships and programs to provide equitable healthcare resources in a variety of south Los Angeles neighborhoods.
The Student Center Coordinator serves as the primary point of contact for the CDU Student Center. The SCC will provide administrative front desk support and will perform a variety of clerical duties including greeting guests answering phone calls answering student related questions general inquiries scheduling meetings for department personnel and preparing documentation and/or other related materials for department personnel.
This position plays a crucial role in creating a welcoming and efficient environment while supporting various departments and student services.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide administrative support to Units within the Division of Student Affairs
- Greet people entering the building answering any questions providing direction and alerting staff when someone is there to meet or visit them
- Serve as the first point of contact for current and prospective students faculty staff and visitors
- Coordinate with multiple departments to ensure seamless delivery of student services and support
- Maintain and organize digital and physical filing systems ensuring accurate record-keeping and data management
- Provide comprehensive information about academic programs application processes and student services
- Manage multi-line phone system directing calls and messages appropriately while maintaining professional communication standards
- Facilitate student inquiries and requests connecting them with appropriate resources and departments
- Create and maintain a welcoming environment for all visitors to the Student Center
- Oversee the building access log system and monitor visitor traffic
- Maintain inventory of Student Center supplies and equipment managing procurement requests
- Ensure reception area and common spaces remain professional and welcoming
- Provide administrative support to the Division of Student Affairs and other Student Center departments
- Utilize university software systems for data entry record-keeping and communication
- Maintain proficiency in relevant university technologies and platforms
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Requirements:
EDUCATION:
- Regionally accredited bachelors degree and/or equivalent of combined education and experience in the related field.
EXPERIENCE:
- 3 years experience in an education or University program.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and database management
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong organizational and multi-tasking abilities
KNOWLEDGE/ABILITY/SKILLS:
- Ability to analyze and solve problems.
- Ability to multi-task
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to gather data compile information and prepare reports.
- Detail oriented.
- Skills in organizing resources and establishing priorities
- PC proficient with working knowledge of PowerPoint Access and Word
