Lead Technician

Your new role

Hitachi Rail are currently searching for a Lead Technician to join our team in Doncaster at our state of the art Train Maintenance Centre. This is a permanent position working a rotating day and night shift.

In this exciting role you will be responsible for undertaking corrective and preventative maintenance servicing complex fault finding and repair of Hitachi rolling stock assets.

Specifically you will be responsible for the following deliverables:

  • Prepare for and undertake planned and unplanned maintenance activities
  • Confirm that traction and rolling stock assets comply with operational specifications by the use of engineering processes and techniques
  • Read and extract information from traction and rolling stock drawings and specifications
  • Prepare for and undertake the removal and replacement of traction and rolling stock components
  • Install assemble traction and rolling stock components using engineering processes and techniques
  • Identify assess and rectify defects and discrepancies on Hitachi rolling stock assets
  • Create technical scopes of work for fault rectification by other members of staff
  • Support engineering team with regards reliability improvements to rolling stock assets
  • Attend and provide technical support with failures in service when on duty
  • Keep SAP record system up to date with clear and concise information of work carried out.
  • Maintain the condition of the work site materials and equipment
  • Adhere to health safety environmental & quality practices in the workplace

About you

Skills & Experience

  • Experience of supporting a maintenance team on a shift basis in a modern rolling stock maintenance depot environment.
  • Outstanding Safety Awareness gained in an operational railway engineering environments.
  • Highly experienced in undertaking preventative and corrective rolling stock maintenance on modern rolling stock. To include modern fault finding and repair techniques using pc based laptops and remote train diagnostics.
  • Extensive experience of modern maintenance management systems (MMS) and associated reliability and available trend analysis.
  • Experience of performing modifications and campaigns on modern rolling stock.

Qualifications

  • M & E ONC or served apprenticeship with mechanical electrical disciplines or equivalent proven railway experience.
  • Engineering based NVQ level 3 Electrical bias would be advantageous

  • Sound knowledge of and compliance to rules and regulations (internal and external)
  • Calm and diplomatic under pressure able to support teach and mentor.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to interface effectively with all levels of personnel both within and outside the company.
  • Loyal committed confident and determined.

Desirable

  • Intermediate IT skills typically Word Excel Power Point Outlook
  • Reading electrical pneumatic mechanical schematics and drawings reading
  • Train driving Fire warden First Aider
  • Train driving assessment and licence
  • Depot Protection
  • Working at Height COSHH Manual handling AC Depot isolation
  • Operate a modern LOPs system
