Job Summary

Position Summary
Under the direction of a supervisor or designated teacher performs a variety of assignments related to the instruction supervision and monitoring of students. May function in an instructional setting separate from the teacher without much supervision.

Essential Functions

1. Under the direction of a supervisor or designated teacher facilitate small group activities and assist with large group activities.
2. Prepare learning materials as dictated by prescribed education or lesson plans exercising some judgment in the selection and use of materials within established guidelines.
3. Assist in setting up organizing and maintaining the learning environment materials and supplies.
4. Support designated teachers with record-keeping copying and filing. Assist in assessing student progress by collecting data as directed by teachers or supervisors.
5. Directly interact with students in respectful and positive ways demonstrating enthusiasm and flexibility while being mindful of individual student needs.
6. Assist designated teachers with integrating developmental goals outlined in Oregons Early Learning and Kindergarten Guidelines through daily routines and learning opportunities.
7. In collaboration with other staff use proactive strategies to prevent challenging behaviors address unexpected behaviors with empathy when they arise and support in the development of social-emotional skills. Personally resolve minor concerns inform teacher of major issues.
8. Instruct students with a variety of learning and developmental needs.
9. Serve as the primary source of information and assistance to any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of a regular teacher.
10. Demonstrate the ability to receive and provide feedback with a mindful and flexible approach.
11. Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
12. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

1. Ability to exercise some independent judgment while adhering to prescribed policies and procedures and perform the essential functions of the position with minimal supervision.
2. Ability to maintain clerical records and filing systems.
3. Ability to comprehend and follow oral and written instructions.

4. Familiarity with safety and sanitation guidelines for classrooms or the ability to follow directives and procedures while knowledge is gained.
5. Ability to communicate in an empathetic respectful and professional manner with students.
6. Ability to demonstrate creative thinking calm temperament and friendly attitude when working with a diverse group of students and colleagues.
7. Ability to establish and maintain effective professional relationships and work in partnership with supervisors other staff students and the general public.
8. Ability to work effectively interact with and respond to people from diverse cultures and backgrounds.
9. Ability to demonstrate professionalism in dress speech and manner appropriate to the assignment and work setting.
10. Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.
11. Ability to follow district policies and procedures at all times.

Minimum Qualifications

1. High School Diploma or equivalent.
2. Enrollment in Oregons Child Care Central Background Registry (CBR).
3. Reasonable knowledge of spelling punctuation capitalization word usage and sentence construction of the English language.
4. Reasonable knowledge of office practices and procedures.
5. Successful completion of criminal history records check as required by law.

Preferred Qualifications

1. An Associates Degree or college coursework in education or a related field.
2. Bilingual Spanish-English.
3. Previous experience as a preschool teacher or working directly with young children.
4. Knowledge of child development principles and key preschool teaching methods.
5. Step 5 or higher on Oregon Registry.

NUMBER OF HOURS PER DAY: 6.5 HOURS PER DAY (10:15am - 5:15pm daily)

NUMBER OF DAYS WORKED PER SCHOOL YEAR: 186 DAYS PER YEAR

HOURLY RATE OF PAY: $19.30 - $27.16 PER HOUR (RANGE 10)
