Job Summary

The State of Montana has a decentralized human resources (HR) system. Each agency is responsible for its own recruitment and selection. Required Education and Experience:

Education and experience equivalent to bachelors degree in business administration Human Resources Public Administration Psychology Communications or a related field.
Six years of progressively responsible human resources management experience.
Four years of progressively responsible supervision or team lead experience.

This agency may use a training assignment. Employees in training assignments may be paid below the base pay established by the agency pay rules. Conditions of the training assignment will be stated in writing at the time of hire.

The successful candidate must pass a name-based background investigation as a condition of employment.

The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) is recruiting a People Operations Bureau Chief.

The position is responsible for the strategic design development and integration of programs within the People Operations Bureau including Human Resources Payroll Occupational Safety and the Workforce Planning sections.

In partnership with State Human Resources (State HR) and other state department Human Resource Bureau Chiefs and Managers the position develops and administers Bureau policies standards and program functions to ensure consistency with State and Federal regulations Human Resources standards and State requirements.

The People Operations Bureau Chief reports to the General Operations Program Manager and State HR and directly or indirectly manages a staff of approximately 35 employees.
