Job Summary
Introduction
Our client a leading telecoms company based in Johannesburg is looking for a Field Engineer Fibre.
The successful candidate will provide specialized fibre engineering support by resolving incidents performing splicing installation commissioning and maintenance of access and core fibre routes. They will act as a 3rd-level technical authority on fibre network infrastructure ensuring reliable service delivery and collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance operational efficiency and client satisfaction.
Duties & Responsibilities
- 24/7 field assistance on-call out of hours and night / weekend / public holidays working as required.
- Install fibre cables on access and core routes according to best practices and standards.
- Commission fibre spans and end-to-end fibre circuits through use of OTDR and OLTS.
- Attend to fibre breakdown and preventative maintenance.
- Liaise with internal Project Managers and 3rd party suppliers for the execution of designed plans.
- Assist with management and planning of overall fibre network including auditing and record management.
- Incident and problem resolution as directed by NOC / TAC / NMC.
Desired Experience & Qualification
- Matric
- Technical certifications i.e. CCNA or equivalent.
- English proficiency for understanding spoken and written communications.
- Valid full drivers license.
- 3 years technical experience in telecom industry with 2 years in fibre installation and maintenance role.
- Knowledge of ducts fibre build methodologies splice enclosures patch panels OSP and ISP.
- Quality assurance auditing & testing managing and mitigate network risk register.
- Optical networking experience including OTDR OLTS fibre types testing splicing and installation.
