CHI Health St. Elizabeth founded by the Sisters of St. Francis of Perpetual Adoration in 1889 is a full-service 260-bed nonprofit regional medical center in Lincoln Neb. St. Elizabeth specializes in the treatment areas of newborn and pediatric care womens health burn and wound cardiology oncology emergency medicine orthopedics and neuroscience.
Job Summary and Responsibilities
We cant express enough how important our lab staff is to our mission and calling! As a Pathology Lab Assistant with CommonSpirit Health you will be assisting in the Anatomic Pathology department. You will be receiving and preparing for the tests as they come in as well as performing some testing as allowed. Some of what youll do:
- Correctly interpret laboratory requests and determine specimen requirements.
- Correctly label and identify patient samples submitted to the pathology lab.
- Perform duties assigned with accuracy and precision meeting the standards of the Laboratory policies.
- Record gross descriptions of cytology specimens and select appropriate preparation methods for the type of specimen received.
- Maintain quality control records.
- Follow all protocols established to prevent cross contamination between specimens.
- Take responsibility for the department workflow and expected turnaround time goals.
- Display competency operating troubleshooting and maintaining equipment and completing all documentation of maintenance logs and checklists.
- Retrieve specimens slides and tissue blocks as directed responsible for the storage and disposal of specimen slides and blocks.
- Assist in maintaining reagent and supplies inventory.
- Participate in Quality Assurance and Quality Improvement programs as directed.
Job Requirements
Required:
- High School Diploma or GED
- 6 months clinical laboratory experience
- Excellent customer service and time management skills
Preferred:
- Degree in biological or chemical science
