The Veterinary Technician Specialist (VTS) supports Clinicians in providing specialty medical services with advancedskillsspecialized knowledge in the delivery of nursing care for pets.Meets all competencies andmaintainsproficiencyofCredentialed Vet Tech IVandadditionalskillsfor VTSper state practice as defined by thestates government body.Mentors lower-level associates.
Job Responsibilities
Approaches and handles patients according to safety protocols being compassionate calm and gentle.
Interprets and completes in-patient and out-patientwork uprequests by veterinarian within their skill set.
Completes routine and allowable patient care in area of specialty including but not limited to developing plansmonitoringpatients calculating medication for dispense performing anesthesia andassistingVeterinarians.
Performs allowable tests andoperatesequipment inareaof specialty.
Knowledge of surgical instrumentation and equipment for all procedures per specialty.
Performs gathers andsubmitsadvanced diagnostic testing.
Educates clients on patient findingsin accordance withveterinarian diagnosis and handouts.
Educates clients onat home patient care.
Prepares medications andpatientfor discharge communicating discharge instructions toclient.
Addresses client concerns and answers them appropriately within job duties.
Schedules patients withing assigneddepartmentand with other departments as needed.
Follows and upholds the veterinary technology professions ethical codes.
Maintains confidentiality of clients doctors and staff.
Understandshospital estimates and haspresentsthem in a clear manner to clients.
Mentors and trains levelI and IIveterinary technicians and assistants.
Assistsin coordinating and guiding daily service flow including any interactions ofadditionalstaff rotating through the department which may include doctors (interns/residents).
Understandsadverse physiologic response to pre-anesthetic inductionand inhalant drugs.
Demonstrates advancedproficiencyin one or more specialties andmaintainsall skills and knowledge of a VeterinaryTechnicianlevel IV.
Assists the Clinician on staff with the organization and planning of workflow for the shift.
Trains and mentors Veterinary Technicians Assistantsand students.
Participates in at least one hospital training per calendar year.
Publishes an in-hospital article once per calendar year.
Models exceptionalprofessional standards consistently andencouragesstrong working relationships.
Maintainstheir CVT/RVT/LVT/LVMT in good standing at all times.
Maintainstheir VTS by fulfilling their respective Academys requirements.
Other job duties as assigned.
