CONSTRUCTION LABORER
Location: Minot or Bismark ND Department: Job FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Primary Function: Work in a utility capacity by transferring from one task to another where demands require a worker with varied experience and ability to work without close supervision performing a variety of tasks involving dexterous use of hands and tools. Work may include demolishing buildings sawing lumber dismantling forms removing projections from concrete counting pipe hangers and cutting and attaching insulation material. Other tasks may include:
- Set up forms
- Signal construction equipment operators to facilitate alignment movement and adjustment of machinery to conform to grade specifications.
- Level earth to fine grade specifications using picks and shovels.
- Mix concrete using portable mixer.
- Position join align and seal pipe sections.
- Erect scaffolding shoring and braces.
- Spray materials such as water sand steam vinyl paint or stucco through hose to clean coat or seal surfaces.
- Apply caulking compounds by hand or with caulking gun to seal crevices.
- Grind sand or polish surfaces such as concrete marble terrazzo or wood flooring using abrasive tools or machines.
Practical Knowledge: Basic to advanced knowledge of construction means and methods.
Skills Applied:
- Reading folding rule to the nearest fraction of an inch.
- Reading engineers rules to the nearest hundredth of a foot.
- Measuring and marking cutting lines.
- Using hand tools.
- Operating power tools.
- Applying different types of fasteners.
- Climbing and performing work at heights up to 35 feet.
- Lifting placing and bolting system panels.
- Signaling.
- Ability to perform volumetric-method air content test temperature test and unit weight test.
Typical Working Conditions: Working around live sewage channel with frequent exposure to rain sleet snow dust mud heat sun cold noise and other conditions common to a construction site. Contractual obligations may require irregular hours weekends and holiday.
