Hourly Pay Rate: $16.00 (undergraduate) / $19 (graduate)

Location: Dorsey Station MD

University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) seeks accomplished UMGC students to work on-site as part-time peer tutors for UMGC undergraduate students at UMGC Dorsey Station. Tutoring will be offered on-site at Dorsey Station MD via scheduled appointment and drop-in availability. Ideal candidates will demonstrate high-level skills in study strategies and basic research methods and be prepared to support undergraduate students across a wide range of courses and disciplines.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE UMGC PEER TUTOR INCLUDE:

• Promote a professional respectful and safe learning environment

• Work more closely with English language learners

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

• Provide support in study skills organization skills time management reading comprehension and basic research skills as a UMGC student peer tutor to undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in UMGC courses

• Provide clarification examples and tutorials that support the student in improving their study skills problem-solving strategies and authentic learning

• Create update and present guidelines and other resources related to study skills organization skills time management reading comprehension and basic research skills for students

• Refer students to specific subject tutors for questions about course concepts related to assigned readings projects or homework assignments

• Refer students to the library for additional support in research and citation

• Promote a professional respectful and safe learning environment

• Work more closely with English language learners

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• Be a current undergraduate or graduate student at UMGC with a minimum of two consecutive semesters completed not more than a year ago

• A grade of A in any version of PACE (for undergraduate candidates)

• Able to demonstrate fair knowledge of good study skills reading comprehension and basic research skills

• Fair knowledge in the use of Microsoft Word and PowerPoint to create content material (e.g. one-pagers and presentations)

• Excellent organizational interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills in English

• Ability to clearly communicate step-by-step instructions in verbal and written formats

• Ability to work closely with students to ensure student success

• Ability to work with diverse student populations

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• Letter of recommendation or referral from a UMGC faculty member

• Background in teaching tutoring and/or other type of learning support experience initiatives in a face-to-face environment

• Time Off: C1s that regularly work over 12 hours per week are eligible for limited sick and safe leave at the rate of 1 hour for every 30 hours worked up to a maximum accrual of 40 hours in a calendar year.
