Hourly Pay Rate: $16.00 (undergraduate) / $19 (graduate)
Location: Dorsey Station MD
University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) seeks accomplished UMGC students to work on-site as part-time peer tutors for UMGC undergraduate students at UMGC Dorsey Station. Tutoring will be offered on-site at Dorsey Station MD via scheduled appointment and drop-in availability. Ideal candidates will demonstrate high-level skills in study strategies and basic research methods and be prepared to support undergraduate students across a wide range of courses and disciplines.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE UMGC PEER TUTOR INCLUDE:
Promote a professional respectful and safe learning environment
Work more closely with English language learners
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
Provide support in study skills organization skills time management reading comprehension and basic research skills as a UMGC student peer tutor to undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in UMGC courses
Provide clarification examples and tutorials that support the student in improving their study skills problem-solving strategies and authentic learning
Create update and present guidelines and other resources related to study skills organization skills time management reading comprehension and basic research skills for students
Refer students to specific subject tutors for questions about course concepts related to assigned readings projects or homework assignments
Refer students to the library for additional support in research and citation
Promote a professional respectful and safe learning environment
Work more closely with English language learners
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Be a current undergraduate or graduate student at UMGC with a minimum of two consecutive semesters completed not more than a year ago
A grade of A in any version of PACE (for undergraduate candidates)
Able to demonstrate fair knowledge of good study skills reading comprehension and basic research skills
Fair knowledge in the use of Microsoft Word and PowerPoint to create content material (e.g. one-pagers and presentations)
Excellent organizational interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills in English
Ability to clearly communicate step-by-step instructions in verbal and written formats
Ability to work closely with students to ensure student success
Ability to work with diverse student populations
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Letter of recommendation or referral from a UMGC faculty member
Background in teaching tutoring and/or other type of learning support experience initiatives in a face-to-face environment
