Advantra is partnering with an enterprise software company in New York to hire a Java Backend Architect to design and implement secure high-performance APIs and database systems for large-scale applications.
About the role
You will architect and develop backend systems using Java focusing on API integrations data modeling and endpoint security. The work involves leading technical design building reliable RESTful services and defining scalable database structures. You will collaborate with engineering teams to ensure performance reliability and compliance standards are met.
Responsibilities
- Architect backend systems and services using Java frameworks.
- Design and maintain RESTful APIs for internal and external integrations.
- Lead database architecture and data model design.
- Implement endpoint and data security best practices.
- Support integration of third-party APIs and external systems.
- Review code and guide developers on backend design patterns.
- Monitor and optimize system performance and resource utilization.
- Collaborate with DevOps teams on deployment and CI/CD automation.
- Produce technical documentation for architecture and interfaces.
Core requirements
- 8 years of backend engineering experience with Java.
- 3 years of experience in application or solution architecture roles.
- Strong experience designing and implementing REST APIs.
- Proven expertise in database architecture and schema design.
- Hands-on experience integrating third-party systems via APIs.
- Experience with endpoint and data security implementations.
- Familiarity with authentication protocols such as OAuth and JWT.
- Proficiency in relational databases (PostgreSQL MySQL or Oracle).
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps collaboration.
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science or equivalent field.
Nice to have
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS GCP or Azure.
- Familiarity with microservices architecture and containerization.
- Knowledge of API gateway and rate-limiting strategies.
- Exposure to performance tuning and distributed tracing tools.
- Experience mentoring engineering teams on design and scalability.
