English Language Arts (ELA Tutor)
Job Description
Position Title: ELA Tutor
Location: Weldon High School
Reports To: Principal
Position Summary:
The ELA Tutor will provide targeted academic support to students in grades 912 to strengthen their reading writing and comprehension skills in alignment with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study. The tutor will work under the direction of school administrators and instructional staff to deliver small group and individualized instruction that supports classroom learning and enhances student achievement in English Language Arts.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide one-on-one and small group tutoring in reading writing and language skills.
- Support students in mastering key ELA concepts test preparation and literacy interventions.
Collaborate with ELA teachers to identify students in need of additional support and to align tutoring with classroom instruction. - Implement effective instructional strategies and interventions based on student needs and data.
- Track student progress and maintain accurate tutoring records and reports.
- Encourage student engagement confidence and accountability in their learning process.
Participate in professional development sessions as required. - Maintain confidentiality of student information in accordance with district policy.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Principal or designee.
Qualifications:
- Education: Minimum of an Associates Degree or 48 semester hours of college coursework; Bachelors Degree preferred.
- Experience: Prior tutoring or teaching experience in English Language Arts preferred.
- Knowledge/Skills:
- Strong command of ELA content and instructional practices.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to engage and motivate high school students.
- Organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Familiarity with educational technology and literacy intervention tools.
Working Conditions:
- School-based environment with interaction among students teachers and administrators.
- Part-time or grant-funded position based on school needs and available funding.
- May require flexibility in scheduling to meet student support needs.
