Position Title: Math Tutor
Location: Weldon High School
Reports To: Principal
Position Summary:
The Math Tutor will provide focused academic support to students in grades 912 to improve understanding and achievement in mathematics. The tutor will work collaboratively with teachers and administrators to deliver small group and individualized instruction aligned with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study with the goal of strengthening student performance and increasing success on classroom assessments and state exams.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide individualized and small group tutoring in mathematics across multiple grade levels and ability ranges.
- Reinforce key math concepts and problem-solving strategies to support classroom instruction.
- Collaborate with math teachers to identify students in need of targeted interventions.
- Use diagnostic data and progress monitoring tools to guide instructional support and document student growth.
- Implement engaging research-based instructional strategies to promote mathematical reasoning and confidence.
- Encourage student participation persistence and responsibility in learning.
- Maintain accurate records of tutoring sessions attendance and progress reports.
- Participate in professional development as required.
- Maintain confidentiality of student information in compliance with district and state policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or designee.
Qualifications:
- Education: Minimum of an Associates Degree or 48 semester hours of college coursework; Bachelors Degree in Mathematics Education or a related field preferred.
- Experience: Prior tutoring teaching or instructional support experience in mathematics preferred.
Knowledge/Skills:
- Strong command of mathematical concepts (Algebra I Geometry Algebra II and higher).
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to differentiate instruction for diverse learners.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Familiarity with educational technology and digital math tools.
Working Conditions:
- School-based environment involving interaction with students teachers and staff.
- Part-time or grant-funded position subject to available funding and student needs.
- May require a flexible schedule to accommodate tutoring sessions during or after school hours.
